Default HT/Computer Folks: Music from my CPU to HT

So I gots a new computer (from Nick's Sticky a coupla' weeks ago). Now that I'm ripping all my music to this computer, I want to hook it up to my home theater. The HT is about 25ft away from the computer (including going under carpetting and around corners.

I have an open RCA spot in the recevier that's labeled {MiniDisc/Tape}, which is fine I'm sure, but I don't have RCA's coming out of the computer. The included speakers are plugged in thru a 1/8" "headphone" style plug.

Thoughts on how to do this?

From your sound card, you would have to have a digital out or some kind of audio out. You will most likely have to upgrade your sound card.

There's other devices out there that can do this wirelessly for around a couple hundred bucks - may save you the headache

Well, I've seen those plugs that have the headphone jack into RCAs, back when people used to hook Walkmen up to their receivers. I guess that would work, since I have a headphone style jack going to the included speakers...I'd just need to extend it. Seems kinda' ghetto, I was hoping for something more...uh...elegant

Radio Shack can sell you an addaptor that goes from a 1/8 plug to two RCA plugs. Then just get a couple F-F couplers and 30' cables and you're good to go.

If you're talking about your speaker-audio out, yes, it's do-able. Expect to get mono though. And yes, go to radio shack and get 2.5mm soundjack..or was it 3.5mm? I can't remember but make sure

So for those who have it, how does it sound (sound quality, line loss, ect)? The 1/8" that goes to the speakers is stereo, why would I get mono with the splitter? I was going to replace the 5-disc changer with the computer, but would the sound be worse...maybe I should hang onto it?

Tanks for the help so far,
DRum
