Default How to turn off horn when arming alarm?

I have a 2000 Outback and whenever I arm or disarm the alarm the horn sounds. And to say it's loud is an understatement. In a garage or any place with an echo it is pretty obnoxious. Anyway, how the heck do you turn it off? I read the manual but it doesn't say how to shut it off. Does anyone know?
Thanks
Evan

Manual for my car says to unlock it, then hold down the lock and unlock buttons together for more than 2 seconds. Horn will sound twice to let you know it's gone "silent". My car was like yours when I got it, and WOW was it loud. Coming in at night and locking the car was VERY uncool. It's great now. The lights just flash.

Good luck

great, I'll try that in the morning. The horn can be pretty embarassing sometimes.

On a related topic: is there a way to have a visual clue instead of a sound cue?

The lights should still blink when arming and disarming even if the horn is off. It could be that the alarm is in valet mode. See if the light on the dash is blinking 1 or two times. Two times means it is in valet mode.

I have the same problem with my 02 outback .I installed the upgraded factory alarm myself . I followed all the instructions and it wasn't that hard . The only thing is that my lights don't blink when I arm and disarm .
