Anyone tow with their Legacy?
Just curious what kind of real-world loads they can handle (as opposed to those stated in owners manuals). If any H6 owners are out there, i'd like to know...

I have the Outback H4, so I 'm sure you can pull more. I towed a 5x8 uhaul trailer packed completely full + inside my car I had about 900 cd's in cases and a large computer and some miscelaneous junk + a big thule adventurer cargo box packed completely full on top of my car from slc, utah to pdx, or with no problems at all. Drove 60-80 mph most of the time (does anyone really drive 45 mph towing a uhaul trailer cross country?). The 2.5 really suprised me on that trip with it's ability to pull - I'm sure I was 500-1000 over the recommended limits .

Likewise, I've exceeded the 2000 lb limit several times, though mostly on level ground. The car (auto trans) pulls like a champ, and an empty 900-lb trailer feels like no load at all. And talk about traction, wet and dry... also, handles quite predictably in emergency stops.

Thanks guys. The reason i was asking is cause sometime in the future i'll need a tow vehicle for my semi-rally 323 GTX. Its a relatively light car, but i don't think i want to push the load limits on the 2.5. It looks like the H6 isn't rated any better (by SOA anyway), so i was hoping to hear from an H6 owner or two

You won't overwork the engine, but you might want to add a transmission cooler if you run an auto. |
