Default 15x8" Volk TE-37s on a WRX

I posted this over in the Wheels and Tires Forum, but then figured there may be more people interested in this forum. So....

A few weeks ago I finally got a chance to test-fit my 15x8" Volk TE-37 auto-x wheels on a WRX, specifically on the bigger front brakes. And the verdict is..... (drumroll please)....

they fit!! There's even enough clearance (I think) between the caliper and the inside of the wheel for the stick-on type balance weights. In my case, the stick on type weights are basically right against the backs of the spokes, hence they're not at the tightest clearance spot and aren't an issue at all.

So, now you know. And now that I know, the Brembo WRX rotors and '02 WRX caliper brackets are sitting in my house, waiting for me to return from my visit home for the holidays so that they can be installed. Soon, I will rule the world!!!

For those who may be interested in a similar setup, the wheels are +45mm offset, weight ~9.5# each, and cost me somewhere around $325 each (+ shipping I think). I had to wait a while for them to come (a while = a few months), as it's not a commonly ordered fitment and Mackin ( ) had to special order them. Depending on which tire you go with, in a 225/50-15 you're looking at around 30# at each corner, give or a take a pound. Not too shabby.

My next question - would the 16x8" TE-37s clear the new 2.5GT brakes? Hmmm....

This would be nice for STX but can anyone find a shorter tire than the 245/35 17 that can handle the 34 tons of WRX in an autocross for this rim???

I did a quick look and didn't find anything that stood out.

The shortest tire I've seen out there in a quick look is a 215-40-16 that is 22.8 tall but is at the bottom end of a load rating.

What's the shortest tire people have run on a WRX. Is it the 'awe inspiring' 'death defying' 'hoppe tested' FK 451

I run 225/50-15s, and my car weighs about exactly what a WRX weighs (actually, I think my 2.5GT is like 40# heavier than a WRX). Looks like BFG T/A KDs come in the 225/50-15, but I don't see any other popular STX tires in that size.
