Default Gas mileage sucks since I got here.

I used to get about 320 miles per tank in my '02 WRX before I moved to Alaska. Since I got here I'm only getting about 275. Product of the lower octane, causing the ignition timing to retard?

Granted, I do more city driving now than I used to, but still......

Anyone else notice a mileage decrease after the switch from 91 to 90?

No decrease. I still get 20-22 MPG around town, between 300-320 miles per tank.

Wow. I have to push it all the way tell the empty light comes on to get 300 miles to a tank... and grandma shift.... and that was with mostly highway miles to a from Eagle River.

I get about 200+ miles, tell about 1/4 of a tank left and then fill it up. It is not good for your fuel pump to drive around all the time on empty.

This is true, but not many people know this. Reason is the pump is cooled by the fuel, low fuel = hot pump. Plus when you corner the pump can run dry anytime the level is low. Kinda funny how most of all the pumps I have replaced (prob around 50 and mostly chevy's) are cars/trucks driven by young drivers who admit to running on empty all the time.

I lose about one mile per gallon in the winter with my 6cyl. But with my old WRX, I lost a little more because I drove more aggressively in winter

If you continue to run high boost with low octane your car will get piggish mileage. This is because the timing will retard majorly to prevent knock. You are better off at a lower boost setting with more timing advance. If you have a mbc the ecm will overcompensate with the timing because it can't seem to lower the boost. Lower boost to 11 psi, vishnu reset, and gradually increase boost 1 psi at a time until you feel the tip in accel. diminish. That is your timing backing off. Lower boost 1 psi to compensate for heat soak and vishnu reset again. Now check your mileage.

Holy crap you guys are getting some bad mileage. I do alot of highway driving but I average about 27 mpg in the winter time (letting car warm up is killing mileage) and even while mainly city driving and driving hard I never drop below 300 miles per tank.
