Default AP CA Maps safer than stock ECU tune?

I was curious as to if the AP maps for california gas are safer than the stock tune of a WRX? I realize that the stage 1 map extracts alot more power out of the engine and in doings so will stress the components out more than the stock tune would. I'm wondering about the alterations made to the map to account for low quality California gas. Is it possible that the AP CA maps offer more protection against detonation than the stock tune does?

AP maps for cali gas are NOT "safer" than the stock ECU. I really dont like cobbs cali maps....unless they have come to cali and tuned ~50 cars to get a baseline with the piss cali gas..I really just think they added more fuel to the map or adjusted timing, etc.

So would you advise against it then?

well, Im a Cobb stage 2 user, so......theres your answer. I just wish they would share more info regarding how they get there figures for the maps. If you are really worried, send your ECU to Vishnu....they are in Cali, so you know they tune on Cali 91 octane.

Im debating on selling my AP for ~$500 and they paying ~$150 more for Vishnus flash....
