Exclamation Injen Cold Air Intake In!

Well, got it in after much wrestling with the pipe and actually pushing the fender out from the inside. I called Injen to let them know that the wagon has less inner fender clearance than the wagon (on which I installed this intake). You can get it in there but expect to scratch up the pipe doing it (don't worry you won't be able to see that part). It is possible though.
Another small problem. The clamps it comes with do NOT fit on there so just use the factory ones. They fit great. You do NOT need to remove bumper at all (as others were afraid of). In fact the bottom cover just comes off by removing the two twist and pull plastic clips. You can feed filter in through there and tighten it with a short screwdriver. Makes removing and cleaning a snap. MUCH easier than on Hondas where you have to jack up car and remove fender liner. If you are removing the resonator you may have to jack car up but since I had already removed it long ago, it was not necessary today.
Here it is with what it came with

Here it is on the car (which I'm sure everyone has already seen):

Car doesn't sound/feel really any different at all so far but I've only taken car down the street and back. No CE lights or anything. So far so good. We'll have to give it some long terms testing now.

thanks

What's the id of the pipe, and what are the dimensions of the MAF hole? If this is what is appears to be, your going to have a problem shortly.

Question question

I just have a question..how much benefit does this intake give, considering that the intake pipe to the turbo is still stock? I mean, I've seen a different set up where the stock airbox is retained, (probably with a K&N or similar filter inside) but the intake pipe has been changed into a larger diameter one.

It makes a difference although I have to spend some more time with the car to see how much. Not as effective as the exhaust but also 1/3rd the price. I believe the pipe is 2.75 inches but I'll have to take the calipers and check. I plan on upgrading the turbo intake pipe later on to Jan Shim's nice silicone hose upgrade. It is available for the general public and I have a dozen units available and in stock. Polished only for now. Blue and red will be available shortly.

Have they gone back to hot-wire MAF's in the WRX's? If so, no worries about the MAF... I've never heard of a MY98 blowing a hot-wire MAF, just the MY99's blowing the hot-film ones.

G>O>D> please explain to me why the injen intake will not through off a cel when the entire set up looks just like the J.C. Sports intake with the only exception of the filter being located in the fender well. At the point where the POS MAF sensor and it's respecxtive housing sit this set up is idenical to J.C.S. that I am currently running: with cel for last two months. I thought the main problem with CEL was because of the heat and the vibration of a plastic to metal connection at the sensor. The reason APS system allegedly works is that the goes plastic to plastic.
This is a long question but I am ready to make a purchase. JUst no more CEL for me: SOA has beat me down already over three Warranty issues.

Well some have suggested that is is not the vibratino or materials that is causing the problem but rather when the filter sits too close to the meter, it will cause turbulence. With a longer pipe like the Injen the air has a chance to smooth out before hitting the MAF this preventing CE light problems. We'll see what happens long term. If I have a problem I'll post it here immediately.

Exclamation Hey!

That's my hunk 'o metal pictured in Injen's instruction sheet... I'm happy to report ZERO CELs in ~2 months of daily driving.
