Default What is this "tornado warning" and how am I supposed to feel about it?

So, sitting at home last night watching TV an odd thing happened. We got a "tornado warning." Now, I'm sure those of you in the mid west are quite used to such a thing but in PASADENA CALIFORNIA we don't get those often. Often meaning ever. What the hell is one supposed to do in such a situation, anyways? What's my motivation?

As an aside, it was raining horizontally with 70mph winds at the time, so I suppose the warning was accurate. Although, we saw no tornado.

That means go take a dump before you lose power.

Try wiping in the pitch black darkness. It's no good.

I can't remember.
been a while since I lived in WI where this happened every week..

is watch worse? or is warning.

one means conditions are right.. the other means wallclouds/tornados have been confirmed.

A tornado watch means that the weather conditions are right for tornados to form. Stay tuned, and be ready to get to the basement.

A tornado warning means that a funnel cloud has actually been spotted in your area, and depending on conditions (houses flying away and whatnot), you should really consider getting downstairs, and under something sturdy. At the very least, get away from the windows.

It means there are tornados on the ground, a watch is when there is a possibility for them

I live in TN ... get them quite often here. A warning is worse.. means one has been spotted. A watch just means the conditions are favorable.

Watch = "Hey folks, these are the kinds of conditions that tornados like!"
Warning = "HOLY S**T A TORNADO JUST TOOK OUT A DAYCARE CENTER IN SUBURBAN BRANSON CITY! THERE ARE PIECES OF CHILDREN FLYING EVERYWHERE! DEAR GOD!"

You should move to the lowest point in your house.. if you have a crawlspace or basement... get in it. If not move to an small interior room such as a closet or bathroom.

find a woman (preferably hawt) explain that "tornadoes" signal the end of the world.
Pound her IDP until she changes religeon.
After tornado threat passes, tell her "although it is true that the end of the world is signaled by the arrival of tornadoes, it was not That specific tornado."

she should be able to understand that ok.

So, assuming I live in a second story condo with no basement in the building, I would be pretty much SOL? Whew, for a minute there I was concerned.

we get warnings all the time here during the summer months... one actually touched down last year too... didnt do too much damage. When i hear warning.... i usually go look out the window, if i see a tornado i try to hide from it... if i dont see one... just go back to whatever.... you can usually hear them before you can see them in a populated area with all the houses and tree's blocking view...

Step 1... place your head between your legs

Step 2..... kiss your ass goodbye

If it was that bad I'd be getting to know my downstairs neighbor

I have never seen a house that has a basement in SoCal.
