Question Rubbing sound from rear of car

I'm gettting this rubbing sound, almost like a droning noise, coming from what I think is the right rear or just the rear of the car.

Mainly it is speed specific...the faster I go the faster it sounds

I'm still on the RE92's and not the rally tires (of course it would be easier to answer the question if I was)

Is it just road noise, is it the rear diff I'm hearing, or is it time for a check on the bearings???

Not sure how many miles on your car, but checking the bearings is a good start, more likely is you're getting close to the mileage rating on the tire and the rear alingment has adjusted a little and the toe-in is out of spec. With one person in the car the chassis can pull the passenger side wheels pretty far in, best to have the alingment done with weight in the drivers seat.

I've got about 33,000 miles on the original RE 92's now, a couple of autocrosses and rallycrosses last year probably are starting to pay their toll

Thumbs up

Pretty good, the RE92's are only rated at 20,000 miles treadwear, I gave up on mine at 27k and I'm regreting buying my Kuhmo's, no grip or mud and snow rating, I was better off with half bald RE92's.
I bet new tires and a good alignment will fix your noises.
You might check for rocks in the E-brake, somehow they get in but they can't get out so easily.

Thanks for the help Mike

Might as well do all the above, since
A) I need new tires
B) I need to get new brake pads (maybe some stainless steel
brake lines to) so I can check the E-brake then
C) Get an alignment (possibly a more aggresive one for auto-x)

I don't know if your still checking this Ryan but the sound your hearing is probably some porsche parts you picked up while doing the water crossing at the no alibi rally. Yeah thats right I'm a dork!

Anything is possible.

I've seen some very strange things while working on cars.

Dont forget to have the rear wheel bearings checked. I know someone allready said that but you didn't put it on your list. Subarus are not the easiest on those. If it is getting louder the faster you go and it starts up around oh say 30-40 mph, then I would almost guarantee that is what it is. Hopefully I am wrong because they are not that cheap either. Well good luck with the noise. Oh and I would get that checked soon. I have seen people wait too long and it will lock up that wheel. Not good if you are going down the freeway. Then you may be needing more than just tires and brake pads.
