Default Rear Disk Brake Upgrade

I am interested in upgrading the rear drum brakes on my MY'99 Forester L to disks. Anyone know exactly what I need to look for in the local boneyards? Off of which cars / years? Any help will be appreciated.

Also, I understand I need everything outboard of and including the hubs? Anything else? While I am at it and have most of the rear end appart, should I be looking for a rear LSD? Again, what years will fit right in?

Thanks...

I know our 2001 S Premium has rear disk brakes. Thats all the help I have right now.

IF the brakes are the same as the Impreza than you can find any junked 2.5 RS. Maybe check the part numbers for the brakes at a dealership for the 2001 Forester S Premium and the 2001 Impreza RS. If they are the same it should be easier for you to find new brakes.

Sorry I'm not too much help

There's been various threads on this in the past over in the suv.com forester forum, although I don't think it's ever been done. UK spec S-Turbos have the rear disks, but the GLS doesn't.
Sorry I can't help anymore,

Lessee... rear discs have been on the S models all along. That means any 1998-2002 S model will have them.

RSs came out in 1998, and first-year Impreza Outback Sports also had rear discs (1996 I think?). They later cut costs by down grading to drums.

The LSD came a bit later. I'm trying to think if it came in 1999 or 2000, I'm thinking it was 2000. I know for sure the 1998 S model had an open rear diffy, so those are of no use to you.

Try to find a wrecked 2000 model and take the diffy and the brakes from that. It's a project way beyond my experience so I'm not sure how much of the rear end you'd need.

LSDs became standard equipment on the S in 2000 - the combo of 4-wheel discs plus LSD was a major factor in my choosing S over L.

I don't know if its the case with Subarus but I know that with some makes the brake proportioning valve differs from disc/drum to all disc cars.

Hope this helps,
Ed

Thanks guys, for stating what I already knew...

What I was HOPING somebody out there would know is:

What cars BESIDES a Forester S that comes with Disk rear brakes can I try to pilfer that will also right up? Anything? Legacy? Outback? Impreza? Hmmmm....

Thats the kind of guru info I was fishing for. Sorry if my sarcastic attempt at humor ruffles any feathers, but !
