Exclamation More lighting problems...

My Legacy's driving me nuts with electrical problems.

Right now, my rear taillights aren't functioning. I've double-checked all the bulbs and they look like they're in good working order, I even replaced them for extra measure. Still...nothing works.

A couple weeks ago, I posted a question about my "parking lights" and high-mount brake light always being on. Well...that problem's gone now, but the taillights don't work! I'm at a loss as to what could be the culprit. If anyone has any info, big thanks in advance. Meanwhile, I'm gonna try to track down a Chilton's or factory service manual.

It sounds like your brake switch is messed up. First always on, now always off. Check around your brake pedal for the switch, it's down there. Did you double check your fuses too?

Is it just the tail/parking lights, just brake lights, or both? If brake lights only definitely check the switch at the pedal. And check all fuses.

Thanks a ton for the quick responses!

I've owned cars from various marques and I've visited numerous car forums, but NASIOC is head and shoulders above the rest because of folks like you. It's refreshing to see a messageboard that's void of the shenanigans commonplace in online "communities." Bravo gentlemen.

Anyhow, back to the lights:

Before, whenever I turned the headlights on, everything would come on: taillights, parking lights (both front and rear) and only the high-mount brake light. Now, they don't turn on but the brake lights still work.

It looks like the previous owner tampered with the wiring, but I can't be sure. I've checked all the fuses, they're all good. I really need to examine that switch. I'll keep you all posted.

Again, thanks a bunch!

It never ceases to amaze me that, for the most part, the kiddies first thing that they do is start cutting and hacking into the electrical system of cars with little or no regard as to just exactly what the hell they are doing.....and then they leave the mess for someone else to fix.
