Default So has anyone installed HID's in Stock 04/05 RS/WRX housing

i know there have been topics about it before. but i am looking for "yes i have this is what they look like" kind of answers...i installed a set of HID's in an RX8 yesterday and it only made me want hid more....but is there really that much of a down fall to the stock system?

this i know:
it may be illegal in housing not meant for HID
it produces a lot of glare
i dont have cash for STi lights
i dont want to do projector retrofication

Why spend the money to do something if you're not gonna do it right? It produces a lot of glare because the reflectors are not positioned correctly for a HID beam pattern... these two things you stated above. Plus the fact that you will absolutely blind oncoming traffic with an ill-matched setup. More power to ya if you can make it work, but I would be wary of the "quick solution" to this one.

There are quite a number of posts by people with 04/05's who installed HIDs in their factory housings, only to be sufficiently unhappy with the results that they went and purchased the STi lights.
If you do not have the funds or motivation to do this properly, then please do your fellow motorists a favor and leave the lights as they are.
A good lower-cost alternative which will truly improve the stock lights is to replace the bulbs with Osram Silverstars. Total cost for the low beams will be about $30-40 and you will have better lighting without glare or potential electrical problems (from poorly made and/or installed HID kits).

Also consider a high beam replacement. These bulbs are excellent replacements for the high beams.
I think that the advertisement is exaggerated but they are great bulbs.

this is pretty much what i wanted to make sure of.....i mean i understand everything and i just didnt want a thread that was all the things i mentioned .... but i just wanted to see if anyone had actually tried it in the stockers and what they thought.....i was actually considering doing the retrofit myself....although i guess i would need another set of headlkights just incase.... thanks guys....

this was actually just a side quest....i am still trying to find some yellow heads...i just ordered my yellowstars from rallylights....we'll see how those end up

i put hid's in my 05 rs headlights and i am impressed with the output. i have not seen a lot of glare at all and i don't see why people are so against this. i compared the output to a rx300 and an sti and the beam is not drastically scatered and producing a lot of glare like other people are sayin.

To be fair, have you personally driven in another car and had someone else drive yours so both cars were oncoming? I say this because I've seen cars on two-laned roads with aftermarket HIDs put in the stock halogen reflectors and they are blinding and the glare is pronounced.
