Default EJ20G short block in a my02 WRX?

so im trying to figgure out a couple of things. whould i be able to use a ej20g bottom end in a WRX?
my buddy blew his bottom end in his WRX and i am going to put in a new one for him. im just trying to figgure out if an EJ20G BottomEnd will work with all the modern sensors(if there are any) and ECU? the thing im afraid of is that the EJ20G will lack sertain sensors, or if the WRX harness will match up w/ the EJ20G bottom end, or if the WRX ecu will be able to recognize the new bottom ends sensors.

i know there are other issues w/ this swap but this is the major issue i have for now.

thanks
kirill

Unless you have an EJ20g shortblock just laying around it's not really worth it. Unless there absolutely some reason you have to stay 2.0L getting an EJ257 shorty will be easier to make much more power with and cost about the same.

If you swap over all the WRX sensors it will work just fine. I don't know for sure but the older blocks might have different style knock sensors and stuff. All the EJ blocks have the same bungs for stuff though... shouldn't be a problem at all.

there was a guy in portland that tried just that spoonagule/pdx tuning helped him

give noah at cobb a call he has a fresh rebuilt ej20g block for sale .. or did

there are 2 versions of the g 8 to 1 and 8.5 to 1

knock sensor is not an issue at all ..
it will definatly need a reflash .. it will run like crap on a stock ecu

yeah i already talked to noah about the block he had for sale. i was the one that actualy picked it up from him for another buddy of myne.
but as for the ECU, a Utec will be used to sort out the tunning issues.
jaxx so it is possable to do this swap? i know there will be issues w/ higher CR due to the WRX heads having a smeller chamber. but im going to use a thicker headgasket to get it back down a little bit.
but as far as all the electronics go it will all match up to the ej20g?

the only electronics on the short block are the knock sensor and the two temp sensors in the coolant crosspipe
