If you've never been on a racetrack before, Thunder Hill is probably the best one to learn on. It has great run-off, no huge straights or tricky braking zones, and is generally a blast to drive. Their instructors are top-notch too.

What kind of condition do my brakes tires need to be in? Tires are yoko es100's with maybe 2000-3000 miles of life left in them, not too much tread. Stock wrx brakes with hawk hps pads in front, normal lines front and back, slotted dba rotors in front, re-bled about 2 months ago.

Also, how do I check on my wheel bearings? I have my car jacked up and the right rear will move around as if the brake wasnt locked all the way, but there is no side-to-side play in it.

Your tires may or may not last the whole track day, but you'll definitely need new ones afterward. I would just buy the new ones now, drive them on the street for a few days at least, and use them at the track day. You can do a lot better than ES100s for track anyway. Falken Azenis Sports are a great option, or S03s if you can afford them, as their rain traction is much better.

You should re-bleed your brakes as close to the track day as possible, just to be sure. Make sure you bring some spare fluid with you just in case. Your pads also need to be less than 1/3-1/2 worn to get on the track. If your wheels bearings were bad, you'd be able to wobble the wheel, not rotate it. Is there going to be a tech inspection on site? If not, I recommend going to a local performance shop to have them chack your car over, just for the sake of being thorough.

well it looks like I cant make it to this one. My tires are right at the tread marker, I could buy new tires today, but I am waiting "patiently" for the falken azenis 615 to come out in a 225/45/17. Oh well, looks like It will give me time to wait for those, get steel lines and better fluids and some new rear pads. There is another hpd at thunderhill feb 6th, but what other tracks near the bay area offer driving schools like this?

the scca thunderhill is the best price/value ratio as far as I know. NASA runs some schools but i was warned againsts them as unsafe. Thunderhill is a great track - super friendly to run on = hard but safe runouts in all but 2 places. People that teach there are awesome, all and all I hope i will see you there.

I will be in a blue 05 wrx with bronze 5zigen wheels. group b or c depending on how it goes.
