Default What E.M is better the UTEC or AEM EMS

Hi I have a 2004 STI and I bought the Xcceleration stage 3 package

It came with and airintake, turboback exhaust, some other stuff and for the
engine E.M it came with the dastek plug and play system with 2 maps based on the mods I have now. The problem is I hate that dame Dastek unit. I dont know if anyone else has used it but it`s installed right. And like every other day. The check engine light and cruise control flash. I can re-set the thing but I am starting to get pissed off

I think the damn thing is useless for the grand i paid for the thing. I am going to school to learn all about this kind of thing and I think the EcuTek or the AEM EMS whould be my best bet. If any one knows which is better between the three please respond thanks

And one more thing my shift light wont beep anymore, It use to so??? any one know how to fix that or is it that damn Dastek unit.

Why not consider the Hydra EM?

the UTEC is a piggy-back with lots of maps out there already. But the AEM EMS Is a full stand alone that needs to be tuned, not many maps are floating around to just upload and use like the UTEC. I would personally go AEM EMS, full standalone and control over everything

Stand alone EM if you are considering many more upgrades in the future.
I have the UTEC and at stage 4 +alcohol+nitrous, the UTEC is begining to limit my options. I would consider AEM, HYDRA, or LINK.

StI_gUy04. you said you are having check engine lights all the time, have you looked at the code, what number is it. it will tell you what is wrong, then you can decide how to fix it.

Yeah, hydra all the way. Utec's are pretty cool though. personally if i had a W i would prob go with a Utec cause i could have Jorge tune it. FREE!!!! ok, well, not free but, tuned.

Is Haltec even around anymore?

Not saying UTEC is a bad option... but for some reason, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth (Not trying to talk ish about it, as it is a good & powerful piece of work.). I would go with a Hydra, or if finances allow, MOTEC offers a box that controls DBW.

No I dont need to pass emissions. And pretty soon I will have 25,000 grand to dump into my car from a car accident settlement. I`am going to UTI for school so I will probley be able to tune it myself when I finish.

I wana go with something that I can control my rev limiter, have at least 3 maps which I could switch on the FLY without restarting my car and have alot of adjustability with rev increments and load setting with some data loging.

I hear you guys talking about the HYDRA E.M personaly I have never heard?? Is it the best system to go with? Price and mods are no concern to me because I have the cash to get me to where I wana be. I was considering the AEM EMS, EcuTek, or now the Hydra E.M which I know nothing about so please post back soon with some info on which you think I should go
with.. THanks

If price is REALLY no issue... I would go with a MOTEC or maybe the Hydra... But most likely MOTEC.

OK cool so people seem to support the MoTec E.M how, hard and how much time would be spent tuning the MoTec unit? And I just looked up the price on this E.M and damn is that expensive, ya I said money is no object but... 3,000 grand is a little CRAZY

So could I get the around the same performance from the AEM-EMS or the EcuTek? I dont know anything about the Hydra system but if it`s any where near the MoTec in price like anything above 2,500+ I will skip past it..

My goals for my car are as follows
445-455whp and 405-425trq
Topspeed of 185+ if possible, I have no Idea on this Whatsoever
I would like to run the 1320 in 11.4-11.7 on street tires

And yes I plan on changing out my drivetrain and LSD for some high $ stuff which could take the abuse but get back to me whenever you can thanks for readin

I don't think Motec is needed, unless your builting the ultimate REX. It's a nice peice of work. Goto elementtuning.com for more info on hydra EMS. I think that'll fit more of your price range and what you'll need for standalone. Order soon if you don't want to wait.
I dont' think the AEM EMS has come out with STI box. That DBW look's like somthing hard to develop. Hydra will save you lot of tuning time, it come with good starting map, As other EMS based map require a lot good tuning skills. Phil help tuning problem quickly too.
I'm using the Hydra for my WRX, So far, very impressed. Any tuning problem I had, Phil was there to help even when I didn't sent it to him, I'd posted on the forum. That's some after service, you'll likely don't find on other EMS.

If MOTEC is a little much for you, then the Hydra from element tuning is your answer.
