Default to STi or not....

Okay here it is, I was thinking that making my car sick would be cool fun blah blah... then I started looking at the numbers... (yea would be smart to start with numbers...im not smart).

My plan was:

My wrx swapped L as a base then add the following:

V7 STi motor
STi 6MT
brakes
V4/5 seats
V6 body goods
Tien Flex or similar
wheels/tires
mics stuff

Thats a big bill to have what ends up being more or les an STi. If I took that money and the sale of my swapped L and put it toward an STi doesn't that seem a heck of a lot smarter?

I no longer trust my mind, so please review my thinking... LOL

IMHO you'll lose a lot less money on a factory car like the STi as well.

Just my 2 cents. I like the fact that I put my car together. Sure I could have gottin an STi, but all the fun would be taken out of it. If that makes any sense. I say build your L.

I had a 01 2.5RS-T and I parted it out and sold it and got an 05 STI. I am very happy w/ my decision. The STI comes bone stock w/ more than enough goodies. My only planned mods are a catback exhaust and lowering springs and in the future a PSI boost gauge to replace the MPA gauge. My vote is for a new STI.

in the end I want a sick car, after looking at some of the numbers being made with GT turbos the STi seems like a fast way to get all the base parts. Trans, diffs, seats, brakes... not to mention that its very new.

So time to start saving for and STi I guess.

I've test driven an STI and there pretty nice, I have an 04 wrx and I can more than handle my own against them stock. I think its pretty fun building a car up. Right now, I've spent 8k into my car, more than enough to get an sti. But I like my wrx.

I could still get an sti I just choose not to, I'll probably be going v7 engine and tranny, later down the road.

If you can handle the monthly for an STI...GO FOR IT!!!

I owned an '04 wagon - upgraded the wheels, brakes, and exhaust before realizing I could have gotten all of which on a bone stock STI...AND MORE

That is my thinking, I can get a nice STi low miles for the cost of a new WRX. The STi is a much better place to start. with only light modifications a becomes a very impressive car.

I'd say DEFINITELY go for the STi if you can afford it. One of my best friends bought a used 02 WRX and has put about $6k (VF30, injectors, TBE, Utec, et) into it and now wishes that he would have waited about 6 months and gotten an STi. The STi is already equipped with nice seats, better guage cluster, bigger displacement, 6MT, stronger clutch, intercooler water spray, DCCD, HID's, and the list goes on. Plus with the 2.5 + big turbo= REALLY IMPRESSIVE #'s if tuned right! When I bought My STi last year, I couldn't afford a brand new one, so I looked for about 2 months for a good deal on a used one. I ended up finding an 04STi w/ 4k miles that had all the factory options, $3k stereo system already installed, HKS TBE, Intake, and Grouding kit for $29k!!!! I think that if you search the forums and autotrader and have patience, you will be able to find a really good price on a 04 or 05 STi. Hope this helps!

It depends on what you really want. If you want the GC's good looks and don't mind the lack of luxury you find in an STI, then go do it. Your body style is more nimble, but less rigid. If you drive hard like a few people here, and if you can't live the spartan-ness, without the luxury and the DCCD, etc...then get the STI.

In just looking at the numbers the investment into the GC just doesn't make much sence to me now. I love the look, but I also like the STi. With the STi I get so many upgrades that would cost me a lot to add to my GC.

I can add a green and supporting mods to the STi and have one wicked lil car.
