I've got one of those Fumato valves on my wrx and I've noticed it tends to leak slightly (not enough to lower the oil level in the car but enough to leave an oil spot in the garage). So now I have a thin film of oil on the floor of my garage. The floor is concrete that has been painted, so I am sure if I find a way to get it up there will be no permanent mark. I was just wondering what to use to get it up. I thought after soaking as much up with paper towels I could use dishsoap and scrub the rest out. Bad idea? I'm just tired of getting oil all over my back when I work on the car.

I think there is actually oil spill stuff out there on the market...but I've used kitty litter. If you dump enough of that on the floor, let it sit for a while, then sweep it up it should dry up.

Just get as much as you can up with rags/paper towel and use a degreaser such as Simple Green or Greased Lightning. What you mentioned, about the soap and water will work fine. Removing the oily film shouldn't be a problem. Just whatever you use make sure to test a small area first that way you won't be painting your garage floor again. -Charles- |
