Default Accessport connection problem

I bought a Accessport off of a guy and he told me that there were only VF34 maps on it so I'd have to download some appropriate maps from cobb and install them on the Accessport. I downloaded and burned the maps and map management software (v1.3) to a CD, brought the Accessport to a friends PC (I've only got a mac) and tried to upload the maps to the Accessport. No luck. I couldn't get the PC to connect to the Accessport. I've since read that you MUST initialize the Accessport to your car before you can upload maps to the Accessport. Is this true? If so, I won't be able to initialize since all the maps are for a car with VF34. This basically makes the accesspport useless. Any help?

You can still initialize w/VF34 maps, just don't go drive around afterwards. What you should do is initialize it, then hook it up to you pc, get the maps you want and transfer them to the AP, then go and reflash the ecu again with the AP using the correct map. The first time I intialized my AP, i flashed the map i wanted, but decided to get the updated map from Cobb's website and flash that in just in case, so its basically the same thing, and extra flash won't hurt a thing

Good point. I hadn't really thought of that. I must admit I'm going to be a little nervous installing a VF34 map on my car before I know that I could even connect the AP to a computer. Thanks for the help... sometimes logic escapes me.

EDIT: Just noticed this thread is 1-year old. oops! My bad. Oh well...may help out someone else.

Tonight on my G4/400 (upgrade to 1ghz) w/Virtual PC, a PalmConnect USB Serial adapter, Windows XP drivers and my COBB AP...I was able to connect my AccessPort and backup my ProTuner file I got from Gruppe-S to my hard drive as if it were on a PC. Worked out great! Nice to know I can upload files from my Mac if need be.

Did you set the AP to option #7: Sync with PC?

Did you configured the COM port from the Map Manager?

I had to do both of those before a successful connection with the AP to the Mac.

Good luck!
