Default Getting P0244 with Cobb AP.

This is quite the strange occurance. My car is a USDM '02 ej20 wrx. I'm running the Cobb AP with Stage 2 map, perrin up, and ScoobySport catless TBE (with down), and the STi IC.

From my search, I found out what the CEL means and why most people get it (overboosting), but most of those who got it were running a tunable form of engine management, not the AP with it's safe ~15.8 psi.

Happened twice in the same week as I was approaching WOT. I was in 4th and accelerating, and the car jerks when I reach ~4k-4.5k rpms and the CEL pops up. The Cobb read CEL code P0244. Outside temp was in the mid 20s F (MI weather).

Questions are:
(1) why would I overboost with the AP?
(2) how can I fix and/or avoid this?
(3) is it hurting the car when this happens?
(4) I was told my wastegate may be sticking, if so, what would cause it to stick and how can I fix it?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Some people have boost spikes with the AP...
Try reflashing the newest map, or use the LWG version of the map you have, it';s supposed to hlep with spikes.

All these bad posts, including my new inability to hold boost in relation to AP use is freaking me out.

The LWG maps are only for Sti's

Rami says he's got a WRX, so he would not have the LWG map

Ok thanks! My next question was going to be what is the LWG map! Ok, I'll reflash (not just switch maps) the latest stage 2 map and then see what happens. I'll keep you guys posted.

BigJ04STi, can you please let me know how these maps can help me? Cobb states:

"Designed specifically for users unable to reach the target boost pressures with the standard Stage2 mapping. If boost spiking occurs, you will want to revert back to the standard map."

By reading this, I don't quite understand how the HWG stage 2 93 would help me? I believed that I'm getting this CEL due to overboosting or boost spikes (is that not the same thing?) and this map might create boost spikes. I guess I don't see the relation of how this would help me. Thanks for you time and help though dude, I appecriate it.

The HWG map will not help you. You need the LWG map, which will decrease the duty cycle of the wastegate solenoid, and smooth out the boost. It's probably the colder climate, denser air. Give it a shot.

I see. On the cobb site, they do not mention a LWG map for the ej20 wrx. They may only have those for the STi version.

Fixed the issue. After the reflashing didn't work, I carefully inspected under the hood a second time, I noticed that my bigger STi IC was rubbing against the part of the T hose that connects to the wastegate actuator. It had caused a small barely noticable crack in that hose. I wrapped the hose with some electrical tape and wa-la, issue fixed! I now have to buy another hose.

Thanks for all the help guys. Turned out the Cobb AP was just fine and dandy and a hardware fault was to blame.
