Default Security Dash Light Flash Hack... help?

FOR 02+ WITHOUT security system!

when i opened up my gauge cluster in order to change the color, i noticed i have an LED behind the security light... is there any way to hack it to make it flash??? could i splice a timed circuit in the wiring harness in order to make it flash, even though i don't have the security system installed?

I feel like the LED scanners you can buy to make it look like you have a security system are too tacky and ugly, but if i could make the stock LED flash i'd be happy, at least until i get a security system installed. i'll look over my ECU pinout, but any at least theoretical help would be greatly appreciated.

okay the ECU doesn't control it... how can i do this?

Yes, if you get the wiring diagram you'll see that the security LED has a constant 12V connection and switched negative. When you have the security module the negative is controlled by the module which flashes the LED depending on the system status. Without the module, you can operate the LED by providing your own circuitry to switch the negative. The connection is available via the factory harness connection where the security module would plug in.

I agree. However i never saw the point of a flashing security LED that no one can see unless their looking in your window. Personally i just wired a small LED that is just peeking through the head liner above the rear view mirror. But to each his own.

hmm... so if i rigged up a radio-shack "flash" circuit, it would flash even during driving, correct? that wouldn't be so cool...

which is why you wire in a relay to have it turn off when the ignition is on.
