I also heard that instead of the concept S/C 2.5L it will just get the 3.0 H6 motor.

It's Edmunds.com/Townhall/Owners Clubs/Subaru Crew/Future Models post #2404.
Shh, it's a secret.

Default Say no to BRAT Yes ST-X

Oh come on Subaru! Please come up with something better than that! No offense to owners of the old BRAT but, my God the name sucks. I mean think about it, Subaru's North American line- up will be the Forester, Impreza, Legacy and the....BRAT. Totally out of place. It just sounds harsh when you say it and makes me think of something annoying. ie: a bratty kid. I really liked the ST-X designation, it fit the cars image and fresh styling approach. Who knows maybe Subaru will do some test marketing and then decided to stick with the orginial name.

StaRS - Someone one the Edmunds forum that was considering the ST-X said they won't get it if it's called the BRAT. Silly reason if you ask me. Subaru is function over form (or name).

Yeah, yeah Faraz. You know everything.
Actually, it kinda is old news. There were magazine reports saying it would be called the New Brat. What I'm posting though is someone that's going on record saying that's the name (although no "official" SOA announcment).
What about the rep you spoke to? Have they posted in print about the N/A 2.5?
The guy that owns my dealership "feels" they'll just stick that engine in it to keep costs down. Others have heard it'll get the H6 at least as an option. It's gotta have more than 165 hp to compete with the Sport compact p/u's (the JDM VVT engine maybe?).

This is like the STi posts. At least we know we'll have some sort of ST-X though.

In Australia, the original Brat was called the Subaru Brumby (which is a wild horse).

So it's going to be like the old beetle and the new beetle?

The name is sort of funny but oh well it's a great car.

impreza, forester, legacy.... BRAT...

Hmm, you're saying it doesn't fit? Try this one:

car, car, car, TRUCK

Come on now, there is a reason for it's name being totally different than the rest of the cars. BECAUSE ITS DIFFERENT!!!

Different? It's another Outback with a short box.
I personally think it would be great if Subaru brought back the Brat. My first car was an 82 Brat. Man that was a fun vehicle. But this ST-XBRAT thing is not that. It's a station wagon with the rear roof cut off.

What kind of market are they going after with this thing? Take an Outback (which are overpriced in the US market IMO) bolt another $5000 worth of "ooh-ahh's" on it. That puts the sticker at what $35,000? Good luck.

I'm guessing to bring it in anywhere near the Outback in price, they'll have to use every last piece that goes into the Outback, except the roof of course.

Hey, I like the name Brumby. SoA reps should post here for name ideas. They could have a name the ST-X contest.

yakker, the old BRAT was also a car with the back cut off. No way it'll cost $35,000. It has to be mid-20's base to sell well. People were also saying $30,000+ for the WRX. IMO, they'll price it below the Beaner.

Maybe the name BRAT also means the production version will definately get the Bi-Range.

I think that's really what the original BRAT was, too. I had two of 'em - a gen1 and a gen2.

The BRAT is back!

Have a Nice Day?

If this hits the old school board, there's going to be trouble.

And no..don't spoil a good name. Why can't it be Legacy something? Oh yeah...the SUS didn't really sell until they called it the Outback Sedan.
