Default intermittent lights on dash

Very occasionaly, like once a week (though sometimes more) I notice that the E-brake and ABS light stay on. If you turn the car off and back on they clear off. I drove around for awhile with the lights on and noticed no difference in the performance of the car. I called the dealer and told them but they said unless the lights are on constantly, they can't tell me whats wrong. So I guess I have to wait till it blows something for Subaru to fix it. Any ideas?

There could be a problem with your ABS system, if the ABS light comes on there should be a code stored in the ABS module which the dealer can read. You can read it too, there is a diagnostic procedure in the service manual that uses the light to flash out the codes.
This also can indicate a failing alternator. Sometimes if one or more diodes in the alternator go bad it will still charge and the voltage will appear correct, but the output will be "dirty" due to the missing diode and could cause intermittent or unusual electrical symptoms such as warning lights.

Thanks Mulder, I'll take that info to the dealer.
