Well I've looked around and searched here but I cannot find what the part number for the stock NGK plugs in the Sti. I know they are Iridium but NGK lists a platinum plug for the Sti on their web site. A have about 58K so I guess its time to change them. Since I'll be down there I suppose I should change the wires also. My dealership wants over $500 bucks for this. They said the plugs were $25 each and then another $100 to install them. They also said that they need to remove the intake plenum to change them so its a real pain for me to do myself. ANDDD they also said the wires were special wires and that each one has its own coil pack in the boot that attaches to the plug. How much of all this is BS.?

remove the intake manifold?
you need to go to a different dealer. the plugs are on the sides of the engine, the intake manifold is on the top!!plugs are very easy to change, maybe an hour tops. i'm not sure if there is a need to change each coil-pack. can anyone chime in on the recommended mileage for that change? |

they are special wires, in the fact that they attach to the coil pack. its not like a distributor ignition system.
Over each plug, there's a coil pack (coil over ignition) which has to be taken off to access the plugs. You do have to take off the airbox, windshield washer resivour, and battery to get at everything. |

If you read my 1st post it says that I did search, didn't find the stock numbers though, just for colder plugs. So I guess the 2.5l forum is just for modified cars? Because everything else would be considered some kind of service.
So what you guys are saying it that I have to get the stock wires from the dealer then? |

uh, did you read the owners manual? there should be manufacters part numbers listed in the specifications. Don't worry about the wires. If you are though, get a multimeter and periodically check the resistance of them. If it gets too high, get new ones.

I guess I worded my original post wrong. I have the part number for the plugs but just can't find then anywhere and $25 each from the dealer seems crazy. I was concerned about having to disassemble my engine to replace the plugs and wires. I have 60K on the car so I thought it was time to change the wires too.

If $25 is bad, wait till you have to get new brake pads!
![]() Read the Spark Plug FAQ at the top of this forum and it should explain to you why they are so much and the other than stock options. I can put exactly 873 different plugs into my WRX, you have exactly 3 options. ![]() |

As a matter of fact I just bought new pads. $180 for front and rear EBC green stuff pads, less than half of what they wanted for the stock pads at the dealer.

Plugs should be $2 a piece at Murrays/Auto Zone/ etc for NGK platinums. |
