Jamie as far as rebuilding, what can a customer expect for $$ and how often.

I am considering down near road a coilover set up. similiar to this (Leda suspension that has been offered as part of Scooby Sports Hunter Package)

These seem as a possibel candidate, but I am conserned about rebuild $$ and how often..
Thanks
Alex

Please read my full review of this kit <<<here>>> - Lots of good info and feedback there

Basically,

Whiteline does not expect a rebuild to be necessary....
This is not an inverted design.
These should last a LOOOOOONG time with no issues

I really, really want to participate in this group buy. However, I'm waiting for the results of a job interview before I can pull the trigger. I'm guessing that by the time the 05 STI units are ready, I will know for sure whether I'm in or out.

CBRD: Use the search function on the brakes and suspension forum, or email whiteline, and I'm sure you can get all the information you want on their damping. I think they'll even give you graphs if you want. I also seem to remember duncangrant made a post in one of the Whiteline Group 4 threads that had information on damping rates of a bunch of shocks and coil-overs.

here is a direct quote from Jim @ Whitline taken from one of the threads linked above

Quote:
....We deliberately chose to avoid independent bump and rebound adjustment as it is potentially very dangerous and requires a lot of knowledge and effort to tune properly.....

Overall, I think its safe to say that the Group 4s are still somewhat of a boutique or niche product in North America. Were hopeful that more people will try the product and we can build up some volume but we understand that its a big purchase and our Group 4s are dearer than many of the others. However, we would like to be judged by the standards of some of the more serious brands mentioned rather than compared to more cosmetic solutions which are cheaper.

hit me with questions

I'm interested in these, but feel if Whiteline feels they"should last a long time without needing to be rebuilt", then warranty them for life or say 10-15 yrs! Then I'm in ,send me a set. NOTHING illustrates a quality product like a company that backs it up with a warranty! I have always loved Whiteline products and their customer service in the past! Lets see?

Ok, here are some questions:

1. Since you are getting them right from Whiteline, can we can custom spring rates? The flyer on the website says yes. I want higher something like 300F/350R or 350F/400R for AutoX.

2. Will these fit the Noltec front castor/camber plates? I need camber for AutoX.

3. If they do need service, do they have to go all the way down under? That could be a real pain.

I'm too lazy to read through all those posts you referenced. Thanks!!

I can answer a couple of your questions, as I have been considering these for my 05 and have done some research.

1. Since you are getting them right from Whiteline, can we can custom spring rates? The flyer on the website says yes. I want higher something like 300F/350R or 350F/400R for AutoX.

Whiteline has a race version that comes standard with 9k/8k springs and the appropriate valvling to match, at no extra cost

2. Will these fit the Noltec front castor/camber plates? I need camber for AutoX.

Definitely

What he said

Plus, I'm a "set and forget" type person but do occasionally do adjustments when bored.

no manufacturer of aftermarket parts is going to carry an extended warranty.
Especially when these bits are made for racing/performance.

We all need to be realistic in our expectations.

I will speak with whiteline to asses their warranty limitations and expectations.

as far as camber plates, here is a quote from Wayne @ Whiteline:

Quote:
I must point out to you that while ever you use the adjustable strut tops that you are currently using, you will be robbed of 20mm of bump travel, due to there design, which will cause problems if you are going for a lowered ride height of "super low" equivalent, taking away the benefits of buying a coil-over set for there shortened shock body.

This is not the case, as the additional travel taken up by the strut tops is above the top of the shock, so it is actually pushing the shock shaft into the body of the shock and that was causing a ride height problem. With changing the top spring platform we are rectifying the ride height problem by lowering the vehicle down over the struts but the shock shaft is still remaining the same distance inside the shock body.

on your review you mention ride height is 3/4" lower than stock. I thought I had heard that these were ride height adjustable. Is this true, or not? If they are adjustable, what is the range? This setup might be interesting if it allows higher than stock settings...
