Unhappy When it rains, it freakin' pours....

I have not been having a good week.

As some of you know, I got in a one-car accident on Sunday, sending my car to the body shop for at least the next couple weeks ($130 towing fee). Sucks. Twisted my wrist up a bit, but it doesn't hurt much anymore (damn Western doctors using "medicine"... I would have gone with needles in pressure points for all I cared).

Mom and sister come into town, griping about how dirty my place is and go on a cleaning rampage not seen since Hurricane Andrew swept Florida clean. Got new carpet in (w00t!) and repainted a wall in the living room that was in dire need of modernizing.

They decide to be nice and get me a new computer table since my old one was pretty rickety and not safe. In the process of screwing the glass top on (with washers to prevent shattering) it proceeds to literally explode into thousands of little pieces cutting up my hands and arms in tiny places.

Then, I plug in my cable modem to hop on the internet and check these boards, and the cable modem explodes. I am currently leeching someone's wireless.

**** you David Hasselhoff.

That's a new fender, fog. I can tell you the front bumper is not cheap....and neither is the hood. That's an easy $2500 fix.

At least you're ok - and the car did its job of keeping you in one piece

I bet it's at least $3k. Maybe even $4k. Every time I've seen car damage then found out how much it was, I've always come in under no matter how much I pad my estimate. It's a total racket.

the bad news: he's car-less for a few weeks
the good news: he didn't drive it through a house.

I think the old cliché "it's always darkest before dawn" applies to George here. Poor guy must've really pissed off the karma police or something.

the super good news? His car will ride again

Sorry to hear of your further pains gjhsu. You insurance company should allow you to recover the towing fee btw. Since it may not be totalled, make sure to request a diminished value payment too.

~
you cannot make a dim val claim on yourself/your insurance company.
dim val claims are only for 3rd party axx......this is a one car axx.
~
the only time i ever paid a dim val claim is when the veh is worth 50K and up.
ie jags/mercedes/porsche/m series....etc.

er... let me put the safety on.

I do not know which insurance company gjhsu is using nor do I know what is in the language of the policy. It may clearly state that diminished value is only provided to 3rd parties (to avoid further litigation) and only for cars of $50k value as stated in your company's policy. I presume that his policy does state he will be made whole. If he is unsatisified with the quality of the repair the Texas Supreme court has stated that the insurer is obligated. I am not saying he is entitled to money just because he had an accident, but he does have the right to request to be made whole.
