Default Take me to school on cams: WRX, USDM STI and Crower.

I'm currently planning for a possible ej257 swap depending on the health on my wrx motor.

The swap is going to consist of a 257 block with forged pistons and 2003 WRX heads, at 8:1 (pump here is 91, but I usually only run 101 (not my daily driver)).

Currently the turbo is undersized, but i'm going to change that in a few months when I can afford to, and when I decide what to go with.

However, while the engine is out I figure it's the best time to put in a new set of cams, I just don't understand how that will affect my powerband.

What i'm wondering is how an USDM STI cam will change a curve over a WRX cam, and then how a Crower Stage 2 cam would change the curve versus the WRX and STI cam.....if someone want's to scribble over a dyno plot in MS paint that would help alot too

Any other head work I should do while the engine is out of the car?? My budget is thin as is, and a cam may not even fit into the picture, so headwork besides that is a narrow possibility.

tia.

This may not be the answer you wanted but if i were you i wouldn't get cams, and instead get a bigger turbo. If you are on the stock turbo, with a cammed ej257, you will be wasting your money.

no, not on a stock turbo, i'm running a deadbolt KONG but the p18 exhaust housing is already choking on my 2.0, so the 2.5 will crush it....

i will eventually get a turbo, just need to decide which one
