Default Heated seats turn off?

I posted this in the tri state forum and i found some mixed answers. I have a 05 wrx with the heated seats and i notice that no matter if its on the high or low setting after a few minutes they turn off, they will turn back on after a while, but i would like them to always stay on. My back gets nice and toasty and then they turn off and i get all cold again and have to sit there and wait for them to turn back on. Some people say theirs does this others say it doesn't. Please let me know what you guys think.

I have an 04 with the premium package and mine don't shut off until I turn them off with the switch. The owners manual even says to make sure to turn them off before you turn the ignition off because they can drain the battery. Don't know if they changed any between the 04 and the 05, but check your owners manual and if it mentions the part of turning them off before shutting off the ignition then take it to the dealer and have them check it out. You may have a broken element and when it heats up, it loses contact and turns itself off. Is the switch a momentary contact switch or is it a normal 3 position switch that you have to manually turn on or off? If it is a manual switch then it shouldn't be on a timer or anything and should stay on until you turn it off. If it is a momentary switch then it may be on a timer. I have a manual switch and mine doesn't turn off until I turn them off.

Mine stay on forever as well (04' WRX) ... Have to agree that something might be up ... Can't see that anything would have changed between 04' and 05', but ya never know ...

Default Me Too!

Interesting, mine definetly turn off after 5-10 minutes and go through a cycle. Annoying as hell. I also have an '05, maybe they changed it. My brother has a Legacy GT 05 and it also does the same thing. My sister in law has a Ford Escape and it also cycles so I just thought it was normal, annoying but normal.

What i have been gathering is that anyone with an 05 has this problem but nobody with the 04s have this problem, i wonder why they changed it.

I have an 04 and mine cycles, I thought it was a built in safty feature, something to keep the seats from overheating or something, I read my owners manual and I don't remember anything about it saying to turn them off or it will drain the battery, mine turn off when I turn the car off...maybe I need to check the manual again.

I'm sorry, I guess I was mistaken on what the owners manual says about turning it off. After all, it was over a year ago since I last read that section. Below is out of the owners manual for the 04:

When the vehicle’s interior is warmed enough or before you leave the vehicle,
be sure to turn the switch off.

NOTE
" Use of the seat heater for a long period of time while the engine is not running can cause battery discharge.

But anyway, It got cold enough last night that I got to use mine when I left work this morning and mine stayed on the whole time I had the switch turned on with no cycling. I also looked at the wiring diagram from the service manual and there is no timer relay or anything that would make it cycle on and off. Unless it is an integral part of the heater pads and not shown on the wiring diagram. I would say to call the dealer and talk to the service manager and ask him if it is normal for them to cycle on their own.

The light never turns off on the button the heat just turns off every 5 or 10 minutes then turns back on in 5 or 10 minutes.

Well, my light stays on. I haven't noticed the heaters turning off but I don't use them much. They get very warm when I have used them.
I don't think yours should get cold even if they do cycle. If they do get cold, what's the point of having heated seats?
