Default Ebay vs Stock Intake Dyno Soon Teaser

Not like anyone really cares right?

I just received an Ebay intake someone (You can state your name here if you want, wasn't sure if I should stay shush about it) here to see how much hp/torque it makes. The package came in this afternoon.

Unfortunately my Outback Sport is at the dealership since something tore underneath it and I have a REALLY bad exhaust leak. I have stock gaskets so I'm awaiting my slow dealership to fix it. I told them I need it done by tomorrow so tomorrow I'll be waiting there for it. I also set a dyno appointment tomorrow at 1p.m. to test this out. It'll be tight but hopefully things'll work out. If not, there'll be another day but it's going to get done.

Meanwhile, here are the fighters.

As a bonus, I'll be testing and old school Minnam intake with a K&N air filter as well. This all will be tested on a 1997 2.2ltr Impreza Outback Sport wagon (AWD/Autotranny). I dyno from the bottom of 1st gear all the way up to the top of 3rd gear.

Stock stats:
Snorkel diameter on stock air filter box: 2 3/4"
Airfilter box (to Airflow sensor): 3 1/8"
Piping to throttle body: 2 3/4"

Ebay Intake stats:
3" diameter (Cone air filter opening to airflow sensor, intake pipingon both ends).

Minnam intake stats:
3" I believe throughout (It's on the car at the dealership)

Will post more as it comes. Will change title and add 'results' once results come in.

My car's current state of mods are:
Underdriven Unorthodox Racing Pulley
Minnam Intake
2.25" Custom exhaust

Stay tuned!

Update: The dealership just called me up and told me that my center pipe is broken (between the cat converter and my muffler). *&^% High centering on snow. I'll get on this tomorrow. They are talking $230 with piping installed. I'll take it to Meineke and let them do their stuff. Be back with more info l8r.

hey that intake looks REAL familiar...
:-P

yah. disregard that PM i sent you. i thot you added to the old ebay intake post, not made a new one.

well neways, take your time, im enjoying my stock systems torque.

another thing, would you b able to do that thing i said with the stock throttle body bubble, in place of that longer pipe, and using the rest of the ebay intake on it? thats what im gonna do when i get it back, because i was told that you keep the torque, but get the hp. i was suggested that, and would like to see some numbers to back it up. if you cant, no big deal. after all, dyno time isnt free.

thanks. i think we all appreciate it.

I could but this is one of the reasons why I hate autotranny's on the dyno. I can't start really low in the rpm band like on a manual tranny. That's why I go WOT from the bottom of 1st gear up to the top of 3rd gear (where it shifts). Doing this will only display hp/torque numbers 4200rpm and up, or something like that. It'll depend on where the hp/torque starts off in the next gear.

If I were to try to get hp/torque numbers starting at say.....2500rpm and up in 3rd gear, as soon as I punch the accelerator, it'll downshift to 2nd gear and screw up the whole run.

The good about this is that some people say Ebay intakes doesn't make any power and if it's going to make power, I'm expecting it to be on the top rpm range vs stock. We'll see!
