Default Garrett Turbos wants to use one of my pics for a press release.

Good Morning, by way of introduction my name is ###### ###### and I
work for ###### ###### ######. We are a public relations firm in
the Detroit. I'm interested to see if we could get the authorization to
use the below photo in a turbocharger piece for Automotive News Europe?
With the 100th anniversary of the turbocharger upon us, our client
Honeywell Turbo Technologies/Garrett is trying to locate landmark
vehicle photos to be use in a large supplement which will be included in
Automotive News Europe and with the photo owner's permission we would
like to use one of this photo. My client is willing to pay the
Copyright License fee for using the photo. Please let me know if this
would be possible.

Picture in question:

So, are they saying they want to pay me for that picture? I need to find the origional and rescan it again, thats a crappy quality reduced one from years ago for my website. I can at least rescan it for them...

Neat.

They'll pay you $10M, which is currently bring held in an account overseas. They need your trust and confidence that you will steward the money into your own account in the US so the money can be freed up - you get 40%, they get 60%.

Just kidding - sweet deal dude!

sounds a little shady to me, but hey, it's only a picture.. as long as they don't need any money from you to "start the transaction rolling" i'd say go for it.. but tell them that your copyright attourney told you not to settle for less than US$5,000

Are you sure this isn't some urgent funding message from Doctor Raymond Okafor?

Tell them that you want One million dollars!!

Actually, that's kinda cool they want to use your picture. Is it for real? I'm a little unclear on what a "Copyright License fee" is.

Nope, completely american name...with US phone numbers! I already sent them my pin number so they can deposit the 300 million, they said I could keep 2 million of it as long as I sent back the 298 million to a friend they owed the money too.

I'm going to be so rich!

But honestly, it sounds very legit. I don't think I would even really ask for money...don't know what to even ask for in a case like this.

Yeah, that is the part I'm unsure on.......It's just a picture I took about 8 years ago and placed on my website. Never thought I'd be asked this question. I want them to use it, makes me proud. Don't want to seem greedy...but I'm just a poor computer guy so money is money.

Anyone have any experiance in these matters?

Sounds pretty cool! No sense letting an opportunity go to waste... I bet Sharkbait would have some idea what you could get for this.

What's the PR firm? I used to work for an ad agency in the Detroit, on the automotive accounts. This is a bit of an off request, so I can do some digging if you'd like. I might know some folks.

Why THAT car in EUROPE to celebrate 100 years?

That's what I don't get. They didn't even get that car there.

Well, the car was a landmark car for garrett, regardless if they were sold in europe or not. It's one of about 500 ever made with the Variable nozzle turbo. One thing that kinda stumps me is why they don't want to use the 89 Shelby CSX-VNT, which is where the motor in my old car came from. But who knows, maybe there is a CSX-VNT owner out there with the same E-mail.

I know, it was taken with a disposable camera way back, developed at wallmart, scanned on a $90 scanner. And it was before I had reached the skill level of mediocre that I am at today.

$25-$50. Time for you to find the pic, scan it and send it.

It's reasonable. I wouldn't ask for more than that unless you think you can get like $100. Like... look around the web for pics.

What I also don't understand is howcome they don't have a stock of pics from past projects?

Sharkbait did confirm that they are a legit company....and then asked me for my bank info an PIN number also...

She brought up some good points to clarify on and a range that copyright license fees usually go at, which is alittle higher than $50.
