Default Please help, at trans prob's after motor install

PLEASE, PLEASE HELP!!!

The car is a 98 Forester, had a bad rod. Put in a 95 2.2 it had a cracked block.

When I pulled the 2.2 out the torque converter stuck to the crank. Thought it was wierd with the flex plate bolts out but o well.

Put in another 95 2.2 and had a tick, scrape noise from the bell housing. Thought maybe the starter was hitting or something fell down???

Pulled the motor back out and nothing. So I thought maybe the input shaft wasn't all the way in. When I put the motor in the TC was right next to the flex plate but still spun freely with my finger to line it up. In the past I remember the TC being in a 1/4 inch farther.

So I put an input shaft from my 95 2.2 in the trans, it seemed to slide in better, they looked identical, all holes line up and blew air threw the holes to see if the air exited the same and the did.

When I bolted it up the TC was a 1/4 from the flex plate everything went fine.

Started the car and the noise was gone. ALL GOOD, NOT!!!! When I put it in drive the car didn't move and I heard fluid gurgling. Shut it down to look for leaks and all good. Checked fluid all good.

Started it back up and it would engage after 5 sec but the trans is slipping bad and I can still hear the fluid gurgling. I let it run and check the fluid again and it's good.

Any idea's???

I've done the search and have found different procedures for installing the TC.

Can anyone tell me if you should put the small input shaft into the torque converter first?

All I can think is the small input shaft is not seated into the TC, BUT the TC did push in all the way and never touched the flexplate. I was able to spin the TC with my finger with the engine bolted up so I would think the input shaft would have seated and there was no excessive force between the TC and pump to hurt the pump.

I have always put the input shaft into the trans and spin it and push till it goes all the way in, the put the TC on and spin and push. It has worked in the past but I don't know if it is right.

mods can move it, but it doesn't usually happen instantly. cross posting is frowned upon, so ask a mod if you are in a big hurry.
