Default 95 Impreza Auto--->Manual Conversion

So I know I just posted about doing my 93 Impreza wagon STi swap. However, I just got another deal on a 95 Impreza 2 door Coupe. The thing has no power windows or locks or seatbelts. It has around 56/57,XXX miles on it. I'm pretty sure it would it another perfect car for the swap. The only thing is though, it has a auto transmission... So this is what I'm wondering...

How hard will it be to swap the STi 6-speed into the auto Impreza? Would it be worth the hassle? What parts would I need besides the petals and tranny?

Thanx again guys!

you would need a rear diff since the auto rear diff likely doesn't match the ratios in your prospective 6 speed. 3.9 vs 4.11. Or you can chage out the internals.

Tranny crossmembers/mount and linkage helps.
Some solution for connecting the tach. (mech vs elec)

pedals require the clutch master cylinder & slave, and assorted hardware.

clutch fly, etc.

propshaft & matching flange

BTW: how is it your deal on the 95 has no seatbelts?

Only worth it if you get a smokin' deal on the new car, and do the work yourself.

Seatbelts meaning no power seatbelts...

The person wants $3000. Is it worth it?

I'm doing a manual swap in my WRX right now.

All those parts listed sounds about right, you'll also need the clutch lines as well as an MT starter. Be prepared for wiring hell but if you search around Kha0s has a really good thread on it (search my name and the conversions forum and you should find it)

I got my 95 impreza L (4 door) with power windows and Mirrors.. for around $3K but I had FAR more milage then he had.. the car had 126K miles on it.. But the big let down was it was FWD.

It sucks big time because it's a little uncontrolable in the snow, But it handles really well when you pull the e-brake in the snow to do a slide, I tryed it in the forester.. it was uhmmm... not impressive

Nevertheless I'm going to watch this topic, While I have a love/hate thing for my Impreza I've had thought about a Manual Swap, but then I would need all the other crap to make it AWD, as far as I know Subaru never made a FWD Manual did they? it's not like I wanted to go that way.

I do believe they made a few of the older FWD Legacy's manual. Don't quote me on that though, but I'm pretty sure!

They also made FWD Impreza's, I've owned one...and just converted another to AWD.

Yes they made FWD manuals. They can be had in the 90-94 legacies for sure, and probably the 1st gen imprezas.

They are all 3.70 final drive ratio.

I wonder why could they not use a LSD up front? At least maybe a 1.5 Way for the FWD models.

I would think the MT front diff is the same, regardless of being FWD or AWD.....so you could put an aftermarket front LSD in probably.

lol I would rather just get Awd then.. but I would look for one with a LSD, after getting to be able to drive a car with one & without... It's not the same.

There isn't any that came with the front LSD stock. Only the sti.....or are you talking about a tranny that already has a front aftermarket LSD installed.

lol well I was talking about rear LSD..

having said that, does having a front and rear LSD make the car a "true" AWD?
