Default New ECU with Prodrive PP's?

Do the PPP's come with a complete new reflashed ecu to replace the stock ecu or is it some sort of piggyback chip? Sorry if this has been covered many times but I was just hoping for a quick answer.

edit: it looks to me like a new ecu comes with the kits.

They reflash your current ECU (using ECUTek tools). If you want PPP on a separate ECU, you have to buy another stock Subaru ECU and send that to them to get reflashed.

I'm not a PPP expert, but the ECU is shown in the pictures for visual purposes only. Your stock ECU gets reflashed by Prodrive. Prodrive does not supply the actual ECU.

So then to get a PPP you have no choice but to either bring your car to the prodrive dealer or mail your ecu to that dealer for a reflash? Basically if you lived in the boondocks and ordered a PPP online you would have to mail your ecu or take a long drive?

As mentioned, you can always buy another stock Subaru ECU ($400 or so) or see if someone has one you can borrow while you ship your old one out. (I have a 2003 ECU I can rent out to you if you like.) This procedure applies equally to all who use ECU-Tek for tuning. If you absolutely cannot afford to do this, then you need to go with Cobb's AccessECU, but that's a slightly different product.

All else equal, piggyback solutions generally are not ideal for street applications. That's a big topic to cover, but that is the consensus.

Thanks for the offer Orson, I am however not in need of a loaner ecu. I was just curious as to how the PPP's worked. Thank you.
