I'm was wondering how many of you have done a swap to a V7 and kept your stock tranny? i guess this can go for a RS's and W's going on that they will blow around the same HP range. and for y'all that have kept them, how have they held up? oh, and also, how was fitment between the V7 and the tranny/clutch/etc.

fitment...it's all bolt on suby stuff, not sure what you mean by that? It's a perfectly viable solution that many people have done. Good luck.

With my JDM ver8 paired with my RS transmission I had to bend one of the hard heater core coolant lines off the engine to get the RS clutch slave cylinder to clear.
Other than that I used the Exedy flywheel/clutch I was running with my EJ25 turbokitted (the clutch still had alot left and I was feeling like a cheap bastard) |

awesome. so if i do go V7 i don't have to replace the tranny right way. Question for some people out there. any one know why Gruppe-s V7 consts like 9,000 when it's like 4300 from kingpin? Just wondering.

I got my ver7 almost new for $2999. This was a test engine with about 200Km on it. Didin't come with ECU, Injectors or I/C. And that what you also dont get if you buy the crate engine to!
Keep a look out on the Vendors forum for Gruppe-s when a container lands. That where i got my deal. They sell really quick i think it was advertised in the evening, i think they was both sold by the morning. |

i had my mechanic do it. The V7 motor fits exactly , bolts right up to the 5-speed tranny. I got the engine from Kingpin and the Jdm Ecu.

Gruppe-s is expensive on their site because those are brand new crate motors from japan and Kingpin uses wrecked cars.

so i was reading about ECU's and stuff. how hard is the wire up in a GC8 for the JDM ECU and what are the options for upgrading ECU's. i read some, but does the hydra for a W work or a Utec? and thank you much for not flaming me yet.

I ran an 00rs trans on a v7. It ran well and I ran it hard. Although, I just dumped the cash on a v7 6 speed and it simple changed the driving experience. The car felt more complete in a way. You could tell the engine was supposed to work with the 6 speed. Something to consider. I did enjoy the v7/RS 5mt setup.

a local guy swapped a v7 into his bugeye TS wagon and is still running the stock transmission.
I guess it works for him and he did 300whp+ at 10psi (didnt want to push it because of the weak transmission) |
