Default 04/05 JDM fog question

What lights fit in the JDM size whole. I want to buy just the surrounds from japan parts or group-s and then get some better lights to go in the kit. I have a WRX so I'm alreay wired for lights and have the switch, so I want to buy the surrounds, cut my bumper beam, and get some brighter lights (I'm not looking for fog lights, but more like driving lights).

So anyway, what fits in the JDM 04/05 foglight whole???

Thanks,
Ben

Anything with a 130mm diameter and not ridiculous depth. PIAA 540 series fit, and come in both driving and fog beam patterns. I can't say from experience that I have fit them because I haven't recieved them yet (on the way), but I have confirmation from another member that he has fit them. From what I can tell, all that is necessary is to build a bracket to hold them in place. Also, STi covers will fit over these lights. Good way to protect big lights when not in use. If you do decide on these, check out ebay, best price I've found (~$180 shipped) from a user called mitc718 or something. Just search "PIAA 540" and he'll come up, he stocks them all the time. Good luck man,
~JD

Correction. Now that I have recieved the 540 I noticed that they are 130mm from lense bolt to lense bolt, not diameter. This make them just a hair small. Not necessarily a bad thing though, I think this will actually allow for a bit more flexible aimibility. I think I'm going to use some butyl weatherstriping around the lenses to fill the gap. This should also help with vibration dampening and uniformity if I aim them in any fashion other than perfectly straight.

Cool

Just finished up. Check out my Cardomain site for pics, night pics will be up on a new page (6) once I can get some darkness. Let me know what you think.

JD - I don't suppose you have any pics of the rear of the bumper? Or anything showing us how you mounted the PIAAs into the bumper?

lol, actually I don't unfortunately, I thought about taking one and my camera batteries died. But all I did was drill through the plastic of the bumper and ran the mounting bolt directly through it. So far it has held them plenty sturdy. The bezel also helps keep them in place. Just take a lot of pre-measuring to make sure you have them in the right place.

Ah, that's unfortunate! If you ever take the bumper off again, make sure you snap a pic or two. So do you have a metal plate/bracket or anything behind the plastic of the bumper? Or are you bolted directly to the bumper beam somehow? can you get us some close up pics?

Nope, its just through the platic of the cover itself, inside the kind of "cup" that is there for the fogs. I could probably get a shot when I take the bezels off to put the STi covers back on. Long drive back to school tomorrow.

Great! The more documentation and info the better for folks with an 04/05. Good work!

So no vibration issues or anything with the lamp just mounted to the plastic?

Hey thanks. And yeah, haven't had any vibration problems, and I've driven over some rough RR crossings and potholed highway. I'll get that pic tomorrow when I'm getting ready to head out.
