Default looking for some specific synthetic oil...

Ah-lo. Like the thread says. I'm looking for some Mobil One 0W40 synthetic oil. At a more reasonable price, that is. I'm tired of getting gouged by the dealership, who wants 14.99 for ONE small container. Any suggestions? Preferably Mobil One, but will take something else in a bind...thanks!! o, and I need 2 containers of it (standard sized ones, not the 4 liter)...

oic...hehe. I did look there, but they don't stock 0w40, which is what I'm looking for. Closest they come is the 0w20, which I'm considering. I wonder how much difference it would make for the engine though...From what I understand the 40 vs 20 is how thin it gets when hot...

The whole oil topic is voodoo.

IMHO stick with what your owners manual says and the recommended viscosities.

If you want sleepless nights, search the forum, or check out

Gethin,

I am inclined to agree. But the oil isn't for a scooby. 0w40 is standard oil. But having a hard time finding the stuff, short of the dealership.

wal-mart is about the cheapest place. just did my 36k last week and they have it on sale for 28.95 for a 5 litre jug (yes 5 ). i use the rec. 5-30 but think i saw 0-40 (although any oil that will go to 0 scares the sh** outta me).

btw, been using M1 synth in my wrx since 24K and really like it. feel better shutting down at ~6k and not worring about the oil coking up in the turbo. used it in all my cars for years...

I know for sure mr.lube has 0w-40 mobil1 full syn. I was there yesterday and I wanted to try it but I just stuck with 5w-30. In my car I can feel the difference in throttle response with different oils the worst one being from the dealership they use castrol dino sludge. I don't know if mr.lube will sell seperatly but I don't see why not.

impulse777,

which mr. lube did you see it at? I want to see if they'll sell it to me. When you go to the dealer to get serviced, do you let them put in the regular oil, then you drain and fill with synthetic? I mean to ask, are you switching back and forth between the two? Coz that would be a bad thing.

A friend of mine is also recommending that I try Motul. Problem is I just did the oil change, and at the moment I just need to top off. So it's best to stay with the M1. I'm half tempted to just get the 0w20 now. It's more available and I'm not so sure 20 vs 40 would make such a difference...

The mr. lube is on main & 2nd. ave (I think) right near the main st sky train, science world, there's a shell gas station across the street right there.

I had just spent almost $100 on a full syn mobil 1 oil change then took the car in for service (at the dealer) not thinking they would change the oil, When I got back in it felt like the engine was less responsive then I realised they put in 10-30 (dino) castrol. When I know the (morning) temp will stay above 10'c I'll switch to something thinner like 0-40, 5-40.

Hey Anthony I'll re post in a hour or two, I am going to pass by that mr. lube and see if they will sell a quart or two seperate.

Mooshoo, no problem I was in the area and I knew it was there, I looked at lordco and thoes guys don't carry mobil1.

"but for almost $100 u can easily go for Motul 8100 5W40 oil change already?"

/\ I go to mr.lube because it's fast and I drive by it everyday & no appointment. What shop should I go to for a change with the motul 8100 5w40./\ I would not mind trying that out.
