Default Subaru's First Chinese Recall?

According to this Feb 4, 2005 report at http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/20...nt_2545077.htm:
Fuji Heavy Industries Co, owned by General Motors, said on Wednesday that it will recall 57 Subaru Legacy sedans in the mainland before China's Spring festival (falling on February 9) due to possible brake system problems.
This is curious, because I can't find any recent Subaru recalls in Japan or the US involving Legacy brakes. The timing of the recall, "before China's Spring festival," is also curious - I have no idea what that signifies.

Could this be a bogus recall made simply to establish Subaru's credentials in China with the government and consumers as a "safety-oriented" company?

China's a big country, with no R.L. Polk or Carfax. I wonder how they track down current owners?

While i think recalls happen, I dont see why subaru would want to say we screwed up on a part that could cause the lives of many people to establish that they are saftey originted.

Owned by GM? 20% is hardly owning a company.

I'm guessing like the airbags recall here, most/all of those 57 cars are still at the dealers?

I don't know but "GM owning FHI" and recalling just 57 sedans when the assembly line would have more of a pattern on group of vehicles because Subaru does more than 57 in one day; seems all but too strange to me. Maybe bogus info...

The recall of the airbags was a fleet of cars (VIN #'s), not just 57...
