Default Switch bulbs

So I managed to burn out all four of the wee bulbs in my fog light and cruise switches. Where does one find replacements? The dealer said they only sell the whole switch for $32. I checked radio shack, autozone, and meijer and nobody has these bulbs!

ummm...

for the fog light - go to the dealership

cruise? you cant replace the bulbs.
you have to buy a new switch.

IIRC only the fog light switch has bulbs which can be replaced.

just did my fog switch 2 weeks ago....

now my hazard and defrost are out.
i have to buy new switches which sucks, but that's life eh?

This is for a 99 RS if that makes a difference, but I pulled them apart and the bulbs are the same. I went to the dealership and they said I have to buy the whole switch. Maybe i'll try another dealership or something

I went to the junkyard today, they only have two subies: an old L and a legacy wagon. But I snatched two cruise switches and a defroster switch. Even though the legacy button faces were different the entire assembly was the same for all of them. Unfortunately of the 6 bulbs I took out of them only three worked, so I'm still one short. The switches were $2 each, btw, take that $32 dealership switches!

Jamie--where did you buy the wee bulbs and for how much? My dealer won't sell them separately.

Pretty much all of the bulbs in the switches are wire-ended 12V miniature bulbs threaded into some sort of switch-specific base - you can pull the bulb out and replace it with something similar - as an example, if you look in the hazard switch, there is a little bulb in a rubber holder which you can remove (just un-thread the wires) and replace. This is a pretty common thing to have to do in older cars (I've done it myself for a number of applications) when the lights in the dash burn out. As long as you can pull the switch apart and get to the bulbs, there is no reason to shell out $30 for a new one.

ok, dont mess with lame bulbs anymore, just get some LEDs, wire in the resistor, and you will be set for like 30 years

I tried some leds, but the only ones small enough to fit were too weak. I'd rather just buy a bunch of bulbs and be set.

I've had to replace all four bulbs on my 2002 WRX's Cruise control and fog light switches.

Don't know if other model years are the same, so obviously...use at your own risk.....

Radio Shack "Micro Lamp" #7219. The other number on the package is 272-1092. It's $1.49 per package of 2 bulbs. They are shorter in length than the stock OEM bulbs, but fit right in, and provide the same amount of light. I've been using the first ones I put in for over a year with no problems (same specs as stock AFAIK).

They are speced at: 12 volt, 60ma, wire-terminal base
