Default Attention New Yorkers -Radar Detectors

It Has come to my attention that there is a proposed Assembly Bill which make the use of Radar detectors illegal.
Assembly Bill No A3757 proposed by D’Andrea . The rational of the is Bill is:

“The only function of electronic radar and/or laser detectors in vehicles is to enable the vehicle operator to exceed the posted speed limit with- out being detected by law enforcement agencies. “

I encourage all New Yorkers to write to thier representatives and express their views on this matter.
I also would like New York club members to pass this on to other clubs or web site forums that they belong to.

My letter was as follows:

It has come to my attention that you proposed a Bill which makes illegal the use of Radar Detectors in private vehicles. Your rational for the Bill states : “The only function of electronic radar and/or laser detectors in vehicles is to enable the vehicle operator to exceed the posted speed limit with- out being detected by law enforcement agencies. “.

I suggest that this statement is quite untrue. A good reason for using a radar detector is to act as a salient reminder obey the traffic laws.

Secondly the logic of this is preposterous. If I own a High Performance Sports car does this mean I do so because I intend to speed? Should we also outlaw sports cars?
If I own a police scanner I do so because I intend to break a law?

Since the early days of Radio and TV it has been previously established that anything that goes onto the airways belongs to the American people . A radar detector is nothing more than a radio tuned to specific frequencies. It violates previously established laws and is probably unconstitutional.

I'm no English teacher, but you may want to check your spelling, punctuation, and grammar before you go any further. It'll be taken a lot more seriously if it's error-free. Just a suggestion.

Yes thanks I will. I actually composed it online and i was mad about this issue. I refined it before i sent it.

I was really trying to give others a starting point.
really trying to point out the legal issues..

Someone else suggested posting it on the Tri State forum which i never new exsited. This I did.

I hope i am not the only one who cares about this.
Once one state folds the others are sure to follow..

what other purpose does a radar detector inside your car have than to check for radar guns for speeding by the cops?

Virginia and DC have banned radar detector for a long time. CT used to ban it, but somehow miraculously, revoked the ban. It's also illegal for use in a commercial vehicle (big trucks, buses, etc) though I know many truckers use them.

Anyways, brunetmj, you're living in an increasingly liberal police state. First, it's lights on when using wipers, then it's handheld cellphones, why are you surprised that radar detector's next? And don't forget, your fellow citizens voted overwhelmingly for Hillary Clinton, FGS!

Forgetaboutit. It's a lost cause. Move to Montana or Wyoming, or even Texas, where people still understand the value of freedom!
