Default 0-60 mph /HP and 1/4 mile times in the G-Tech tonight

so my cousin got the G-Tech pro he has a C5 and it's garaged for the winter but he wanted to test it out on my STi.. my current mods 3" TBE Ecutek and stage 3 clutch. It was wet out on the roads we put a combined weight of 3550 lbs with him and I in the car and my best Run (with a desent launch on snow tires and a wet ground) was 0-60 4.8 seconds and 1/4 mile 13.4 trapping 104 mph. Dynod car 282 whp which is exactly what my Dyno sheet says.. LOL are these things accurate.. I am not sure if ai am impressed becuase out of the factory with a Stock STi tehyare getting 4.9 secs and 13.3 in the 1/4 mile but like I said ground was wet and I was on snow tires... I think with a better luanch and summer tires I would hit low 4's and high 12's but I dunno
anyone use this ?

Here's a link to the g tech forum in case you aren't familiar w/ it. Several guys have WRX stuff on there. If you download the PASS file you can look at the posted files on your computer if you haven't already done so. I am real happy w/ my g tech comp pro. I think it is a great tuning aid. At the track it has been pretty close to the track times. The track wasn't sure of what rollout they use so that could throw off some numbers since I wasn't sure what to enter in the g tech. I think I went w/ 12 or maybe 18 inches. I have tested stock wrx's, cobb stage 1, cobb stage 2, wrx w/ boost controller, wrx w/ front mount, exhaust, and intake, stock STi. I felt all the numbers went right along w/ the numbers you should be getting for those mods.

Yeah, also more to use to see if your mods helped you improve acceleration-wise more than an actual time/mph.

Wow $300 for something that does this. Just buy a stopwatch, a pencil and a piece of paper and save $297.

The formula is: hp = weight / (ET / 5.825)^3

The formula is: hp = weight * (speed / 234)^3

You guys ever hear the story of how NASA spent a million dollars creating the space pen that is gas filled and works in zero gravity and you can write upside down and backwards?
The Russians just use pencils and they spent the rest on vodka.

dude, you are seriously overpaying for a stopwatch, a piece of paper and a pencil.

Wow, is right I only spent $17 on my basic version one. And I bet it is more accurate than you clicking a stopwatch for start and stop times.

You can get the older style on Ebay for approximately $36.00 shipped to your door. I know I did along with a few others on another board. It calculates hp, 0-60mph time, 1/4 mile time and trap speed as well as G-force if you are going in a circle.

I still like the older ones. I've been using it a good deal to test the difference in trap speed between modifications. A stopwatch isn't going to do this.

Why do you need a G Tech to compare trap speeds or 1/4 mile times? You get a nice slip that has them both on it already.
Difference = Trap Speed 2 - Trap Speed 1
If 2 is greater than 1 then your power went up.
If your time is better and your trap is the same then you drove better.
Why is having the gtech say you went from 250 hp to 260 hp helping at all? Its just a guesstimate anyway the same as the equations. Those are probably the exact equations its using anyway.
I mean I'm a hypocrit cause I have the Blitz powermeter which does all the same stuff and its 5x as much as the gtech. But I got it more for show than to actually use it. So i guess i am the stupideriest one here.

This is what I'm talking about. Some people have to travel hours to get to a dragstrip. Other's just don't want to go for various reasons, like waiting in the pits only to get 1-2 runs a night.....for $12.00 or so.

It's convenient to use wherever you want so that you can test how a mod or modifications affect your car's overall performance. It's hard to use a stopwatch if you are busy shifting a car.

In the end, it's just a matter of preference. I go to the track as well as use a G-Tech. I compare track times to track times, G-Tech times to G-Tech times and compare them to each other. I like both! Have fun!

oh i see.

But you still shouldnt be doing 1/4 mile runs on the street or even 0-60 runs for that matter.

Your taxes dont cover my funeral when you hit me.

i speed around as much as the next guy, but i'd rather pay the $10 to use the track for a day, than get my car impounded.

If you make sure you get an accurate weight on the car these are very accurate. A couple of my friends got one and took it to the track and it read the same times as the time slip on like 20 passes. Errors in times are usually user error.
