245/45-17 is too tall for the STI. You want 245/40-17. I mean...it could be done, but you'd have a larger diameter tire so your speedo would be off, and it would increase chances of rubbing. 245/40-17 is much closer in diameter to the stock 225/45-17.

well, the 255/40R17 is the closest of the "fat" tires to stock diameter... but they are a much tighter fit on te 7.5" rim.

minor typo, he meant 245/45-17 is too tall. but hes right, 245/40-17 is the correct diameter, and will be easier to fit, and theres a smaller chance of it rubbing. especially if u change suspension later.

And I think he is using them on a WRX as well, and not a STi.

They would probably work on a stock 04 sti but if you lowered it, and dont have high spring rates it will rub in the rear. Im runnig them but neither my suspension or fenders are stock. Speedo is reads way high stock, so its actuall closer to accurate now.

Hes lowered on jics. I know that combo wouldnt rub on a stock sti suspension, on a wrx it really shouldnt as long as the increased ride height is > the increased body roll.

I think for autox a 245 45 17 tire would work great on an STI. It would give it taller gearing so you wouldn't have to go into 3rd so often. I would love it.

It works on some courses others it hurts you a little. Its only like 3mph extra over the stock size in 2nd.
