Default I think i have an exhaust leak before the turbo??

I noticed that my car is very raspy sounding up front and when im next to somthing it sounds like their is definatly a leak up there somewhere. i checked all my bolts except for the turbo ones and ther all tight still. BTW i have a vf34, gruppes s header and a gutted uppipe. whats the best way to go about finding the leak, if their is one?? also what are the adverse effects on performance with a pre turbo leak?? thanks.

Default

feather on a stick (watch for movement)
soapy water in a spray bottle (watch for bubbles)
lit cigarette/punk for smoke (watch for swirl)
creating a restriction at the tailpipe (increases backpressure, increases rate of leak)
pulling out gaskets, looking for soot on edges (soot at edge of gasket = leak)

i've used all of the above at different points in time.

A pre-turbo leak will create slower spool.
