2001 2wd/fwd auto to 1998 2wd/fwd auto swap
Hi
My wife drives a 1998 1500cc 2wd/fwd auto Impreza (Japanese import into New Zealand) with a dying trans. My question is, can the 2wd/fwd auto from a 2001 1500cc car be fitted to a 1998 car without major modifications? (I don't want to have to change things like the computer, cross-member, driveshafts etc if possible). I have access to a 2001 trans from a Japanese wreck with (supposedly) only 1800km on the clock (the guy selling it has documents to prove the low kms). Obviously it would be great to install what effectively is a new trans, especially as it is available at about 1/4 the cost of getting the existing trans overhauled. Any advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks
