After running 1:24's going CCW I got a ride along and was shown 1 corner that I was really screwing up, which would explain why I have been slower going CCW than CW when CCW is suppose to be faster. I tried the better way to attack the corner but the timers were turned off, so I am not sure how much it helped yet.
Bested my CCW time due to that ride along months ago by a long shot. New CCW time of 1:21.6 which is 2.5 seconds faster. I was really entering the carousel like a pansy before, lol. Only change to the car was different tires. Still same size and still street tire.

Ran again this weekend...IMPROVEMENT!

1:36.8, most laps in the 1:37-1:39 range.

Great track! Lots of variety...I'd like more elevation change, but I guess you can't expect them to more that much dirt.

Yea, the car is still 100lbs overweight, needs another 10hp peak, and 10-30hp midrange, and the penske's will be revalved and turned into coilovers this winter. As well as poly bushings, LG long tubes (will help that power), motor mounts, and other fun stuff. I'm actually hoping for a 1:19.9 next year. That in a race will give me the lap record!

I've yet to be on track at either NJMP track. I've been to the thunderbolt track, but never been on track, but I'll go next year sometime I'm sure.

Can you run something like a Hydra in your class? I'm looking to actually start doing some domestic stuff and am looking for some racers to help out. Can you run Corvettes in American Iron Extreme?

Update:

Phil,
A Hydra would be super nice!!! Shoot me a PM and we'll talk. As for AIX, I think its just Live axle cars (so stangs, F bodies and the like). I can run in any of the ST classes.

1:17 is SMOKING FAST!!! jebus... I'd figure my vision would get blurry that fast down the front straight.

Tires: ~50% used V700 Victoracers
Conditions: 50 degrees, low humidity, dry

Road Atlanta: 1:50.x with a 200 lb passenger
Comparison time: a Panoz instructor ran a 1:47.x in his similarly equipped car without passenger

Not the fastest time, but not too bad. Timed from in-car video at a BMWCCA track day.

I love track days. The thing about Road Atlanta is there is too much concrete in close proximity to the track. It's really hard to open the pucker valve when it's your daily driver.

I figure I could have been down in the 1:48 range if I had been solo at the time.

Ok, let's talk.

My straight speeds were not so fast actually as my throttle was shutting down at 6k rpm so I was short shifting like crazy. We still have a pretty flexible powerband with our engine, turbo, and tuning package so it's still effective. I think 1:15s shouldn't be difficult. We'll see in November.

Thanks,
Phil

Anyone here have timed on a STi at Miller Motorsports Park for either east track, west track, outter track or the full track?

I also don't see anyone here have timed for Watkins Glen as well?

Not an STI, but a LegacyGT. If memory serves I posted a 3:16.x in Koni qualifying there in 2006, and Brian posted a 3:15.x the next year in qualifying. full track.

Track: Hallett CCW
Tire type: 225/45-17 Hoosier R6
Time:1:32.1 this past weekend, best is a 1:31.5 on 245/40-17's used Hooisers
Overall Track Record or respectable time:
The Lock's USTCC car ran there a few years back and their best time was a 1:27.1

I also have a friend who races a 02 WRX wagon in a series run by the track owners with similar setup but not a as developed as the Lock's car. Also on a stock motor with bigger top mount and 17psi. 1:25.7 on 235-17 Yokohama Slicks

Cool thread.

Vehicle: 2002 WRX wagon, stg2, DMS 40mm coilovers, sedan+sti suspension parts, 2950 lbs
Track: Shenandoah
Tire type: 225/45-17 RE-01R's
Time: 1:45.9x
Overall Track Record or respectable time: 1:28.8 for a built 911, 1:41.0x for a stock Boxter S on R888's

Vehicle: 2008 STI, stg2, KW Clubsport coilovers +stuff, 3350 lbs
Track: Patriot (@VIR)
Tire type: 255/35-18 Dunlop Z1 Star Specs
Time: 53.8x
Overall Track Record or respectable time: 52.9x (gutted 170 whp Miata beating a 400 whp EVO and STI)

Patriot was first track outing in STI. put down the power great, tons of front grip, but rear was loose, not enough rear negative camber. Added more and going for a 1:40 at Shenandoah this weekend...

The best mod by far were the tires. Very sticky tires for this technical track. R-compound tires with -2.0 degrees camber in the front really helped. (These tires are actually designed for negative camber.) Only problem is that my tires are too wide. They rub in the rear. Going to roll out my rear fenders and that should fix the problem. The anti-sway bars and springs helped too. Next suspension mod will probably be KYB AGX shocks. Another issue I realized that since my tires are so sticky, my Porterfield R4S brake pads aren't cutting it anymore. Need to get a different set of pads for the track.

I'm still looking for more downforce, trying to get the most of untuned Cobb OTS 93 (for now, will be tuned in '09) to go over 145 mph at the end of the front straight. Looking for a diffuser and undertray, and lowered ride height with some rake.

That Radical facing us, stopped, really surprised us. The corner worker was still at his station on the outside of that right hander, just has not waved the yellow yet. In fact the orange GT3 behind me came up a little too close to that spun car. Doesn't happen very often though, whew.

Are you talking about at the beginning? You can see the corner worker near the apex of the right hander waving the yellow while you're turning into the left hander before it.

Those speed ventures events seem...interesting. This was a speed ventures event, too: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1124724

Glad you survived .

Yes, that's true, another corner worker did run and wave the flag at the apex, to handle the situation, and we slowed down enough to avoid that Radical. Those two corners, turns 3 and 4 come off of the very fast banking.

Overall, Speedventures puts out great events, on schedule and lots of emphasis on safety. I'm very happy running with them.
