I'm wondering if there is any difference. I have an APS DR500 FMIC here with the GD bumper beam that APS sends with it. Can I mount it right up to my 2000 RS or will there be fitment issues? Thanks.

I know, I think you can get them for $60 somewhere actually. But, I've heard the APS one actually retains some of the integrity of the stock bar. I prefer not to compromise that if I don't have to. Plus, I have that one sitting here, so I'd prefer to use it. So has anyone tried it before? Thanks.

They mount completely different, there is no way you are going to be able to use it on an RS as is. The RS bumper beam has two "rails" that slide into the unibody of the car and are bolted with 4 large bolts near the battery and the abs pump, facing downward.
The GD has a flat bumper beam that bolts to the face of the unibody using 6 bolts, 4 large ones and 2 smaller ones. The bolts face towards the back of the car. Those 4 large bolts are what the APS beam uses. What you might be able to do is have someone weld two rails onto the APS beam, drill and tap some large holes. |

Thanks. Do you have any pics? Would I be able to just drill and tap the 6 holes it normally uses? Is there a strong spot on the front of the GC to line up with these holes in the beam? Thanks again.

Sure I have an APS beam and a GC bumper beam sitting out actually, and a car with no beam on it. So I can mock up the APS beam on the car and take a picture of it.

Here are a few pictures. Honestly the APS beam is well made but it isn't going to do a whole lot in a crash. Once you figure out how you are going to mount the IC itself you may not have to cut as much out of the USDM beam as you think. The bumper cover holes aren't even close to the same place on the APS as the GC8 one.

Thanks so much. So the top bumper holes won't even come close? How's the APS's mounting point? Is there a nice flat surface to drill into? Thanks again.
