Default 2004 Forester 2.5XT - TIRES

I own the vehicle and would like to put the STI wheels and tires on it.

My dealer tells me they will not fit.

I found a dealer with a used set from the STI. They say, just bolt them on.

Will they fit?

I hate the stock tires and will put snow tires on the stocks wheels.

Need a performance set.

As long as it is for a 04 it will fit.

Do you plan to lower it at all? If not your car is going to look very strange.

This why this place is starting to stink. He can't even ask a simple question without being flamed by someone from "PM B_Tapper for anal sex"

Because the first dozen posts will be from WRX owners who don't know a thing about Forester offsets. This is the Forester forum, the person has a Forester question, and I think we can handle it from here.

Bunny- '05 STi rims won't fit. '04 STi rims will, but you are going to be cutting it close on the offset; some would say too close if you intend to play with the suspension setup. Those tires are 225/45/17 which will work, but are going to look a little funny on stock ride height. They are also going to throw your speedo and odometer off. It depends on how deep you want to get into this, and what you want out of the car.

If a factory wheel is what you are after. Outback wheels have the correct offset for the Forester, 48 mm. They can be found in two flavors. 16 x 6.5 with 225-60-16's or even better 17 x 7 with 225-55-17.

Good luck,
Richard

Just outback wheels? Legacy GTs don't have the same offset?

i would also like to know. isnt outback and LGT same wheel dimensions? so LGT rims would work on FXT and FXT would work on LGT? (knowing that LGT is 17" and FXT is 16")

Offsets are different between the Outback and LGT. The LGT's are not 48 mm, which is too bad because some are real nice looking LGT ones.

Caddy- I think it is more of an issue with 17s, since you get that much closer to the spring perch. 16s are easier to run on Impreza-spec offsets

I have a set of 17" Prodrive P7's with a 52 mm offset, and I've never had any problems either. I could be wrong, but I don't think 5 mm either way will be a dealbreaker, even with 17's.

so many contradicting opinions.... is there a source for an absolute resolution on this matter? otherwise we're just speculating really.

well THAT might be an SF vs. SG thang. Pioneer Lark6 attempted to run P7s on his SF and they rubbed, se traded them off for a swet of Superleggeras (+48).

I'll order a LGT wheel today and hopefully have a definate answer tomorrow. I have the pink springs but I don't think that will affect anything. Stay tuned.

"Pioneer"? Makes me feel all Gabby Hayes-like:

Cliffs Notes version of my trial and error:

SF:
225/55-17 on P7s = rubbing front & rear
225/50-17 on P7s = rubbing front & rear
225/50-17 on OZ SLs = okay!

Traded SF for SG August '04.

SG:
225/50-17 on OZ SLs = okay!

I understand 225/55-17 will work okay with a +48 offset on the SGs as well, but I've still got a lot of good tread life left in the 225/50s.

Hope this helps.

What size tires are you running? 225/50?

i'm running 225x50x17 on BBS RK's 48 offset (from my WRX WGN) and they look, ride and perform great!

I also have the JDM Forester STI springs, 20mm sway with poltek endlinks ... (i'm a peaty copycat and love it)

Hmm, I wonder if F-STi springs will work with 225/55's (+48 offset)? I would've gone with a 50, but I didn't want to give up any ground clearance because of driving in beach sand.

Ed,
The front and rear wheel circumference on your Conestoga is greater than the 1/4" difference advised by SoA. You're really gonna toast your diffs.

I'll tell you how the 225-55's with pinks work after tomorrow.
