Default Gas Gauge Fixing

Okay,

I'm pretty sure this is a unique question, if it can be found somewhere i'm very sorry.

So, my gas gauge never worked. I figured this weekend I would run to a local salvage yard and grab the sending units I need. Lemme get you a little information about MY car so you can help me.

My car has: 2 sending units, it's a 95 2.2.

My angle>> Back seat taken out, facing the trunk from the inside of the car.
I took a sending unit from a 93, and replaced it with the one on my 95, that was on the left side (the one with the fuel pump on it), then i took a sending unit from 97 or so i think it was 97, maybe it wasn't, i know it was a higher model car than mine because of the interior and put that in on the right side.

Didn't work. What did I do wrong? Or why aren't these two compatible. Keep in mind, the 93 sending unit didnt have the wierd box thing coming off it, and the bobber was on the opposite side. But the part from the 97 was exactly the same part.

Anything I can do? Can I make it run off one sending unit, short circut some things, anything without having to go buy all 95 parts?

Any help is appreciated!

- George

Just clean your old one:

0 check resistance with float at top and bottom of range
1 spray carb cleaner on the area where it slides
2 let sit a few minutes
3 scrub with toothbrush
4 repeat
5 run float up and down 50-100 times
6 check resistance with float at top and bottom of range
