I just wonder what this place has wrong with asking questions purely on curiosity. I.E. all these insurance threads that get closed due to this threads rule. The explanation in this thread is pretty much only referring to people wondering what their insurance might be like not people just asking out of curiosity. Which is the way most people have been asking. Obviously if you want to know what YOUR insurance will be like ya get a quote, I think most people know this.

Why in the world wouldn't a newbie read a sticky? They are awesome! I'm a newbie and try to read everything I can get my eyes on, because it's an endless amount of info.
All I could think about this post was THANKGOD. Someone clearly needed to say it!

at OP: Add the resiliant should I buy THIS Subaru question, because not only would we have to drive it first, we'd also have to check an array of accesories on the car... like how warn the tires are, how the clutch feels, how the paint is... all of which if sum1 was asking if they should buy it wouldnt know.

90K service question response continued. -- Just a heads up I replaced my plugs at 120K after doing it - I can tell you they didn't need it.

120 timing belt project I had the dealer do it. They checked the oil pump while in there turns out mine was fine and clean so they just did the belt work and thats it. $700

The diff I've done it my self this last time I had the local oil changer shop do it "Not econo lube" went to a great little local shop they do a nice job. I have the manual 5spd I've changed it twice my self goes very fast - had the local lube joint do it this last time.

The valve adjustment bit I was kinda surprised to see it on there. Only time I had valves adjusted was when I suffered the external head leak and subaru did the fix on their dime which case they had to adjust the valves after the work. So I too would be very surprised if they actually do that for a 90K service.

So far my experience with these so call service interval sessions has been that they are total BS. A local Subaru dealer when asked what they would charge for a manual trans and diff service quoted me $450 for their 30K service. I said no - just the transmission service - his response was we don't do that - read between the lines its a waste of our time to just service your transmission and charge you $140 vs $450 for virtually the same work. Hmm? Wifes VW 30K service list was and I'm not kidding you - Clean the roof rack rails - check break pads for wear- change oil - change manual transmission oil - air filters they charge $500+ for that! That was over the phone - I asked the guy are you serious you check and clean the roof rack mounts?

Then he went on some tangent saying my warrenty would be void if we did not have the service intervals done. I checked with our 3rd party warrenty holder their response was as long as all required oilchange intervals are met and the car is maintained within reason meaning breaks are replaced when needed etc the warrenty was still good.

So really what we have in most cases are dealerships building added profit into their cars by charging high prices for basic maint items on vehicles that go 100K before needing major work such as timing belts etc.

Did you REALLY just post that in the 'Questions we cannot answer' thread?

Tell me it's some cruel joke.

Because they simply can't be answered.

Is my car totaled?
How much should my insurance be?
What will my 1/4 mile times be?

You can't answer those questions. Because you can't. Why can't you? Because you can't.
