Great Post!
To all the other noobs like myself, I wouldn't take this as "you can't post anything" or you'll get your head torn off. I look at it more like encouragement to do some research first before asking questions. Before I bought my wrx I knew enough about cars to change my oil and that's about it, but looking through this site there is an unimaginable wealth of knowledge...you just have to be willing to look for it. If you find what you think might be an answer, but don't understand exactly what they are saying, ask for clarification. Also, as has been said many times throughout this thread, the reason the questions above are unanswerable is because there are too many different factors to be able to determine an answer It's like trying to solve for x in a 5 variable equation, without any other way to determine the other variables.

That's the way I see it at least, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

Legacy

Whoa.

I recently purchased a 1999 Subaru Legacy Outback to replace my now-dead 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera S. I'm now fully re-admitted to the Subaru owners community! (I used to have an old 1984 Subaru GL -- great car)

I was referred to this forum by a friend of mine, who says that this is the best place online for anything Subaru. So far, I've seen some extremely thorough, thoughtful posts helping people out.

Thanks!
-Tom

my car won't start, what should I do with my life? (append to unanswerable questions)

From today:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1977444

“Hey there,

Looking like a truck is going to better suit my needs so looking to make a change. Looking at a 2003 2wd auto toyota tacoma with with factory offroad package. Not sure of the exact size of the wheels. Could anyone offer any insight? To my mind small engine with big wheels often means poor mileage. Wondering if it'll be any better than the 2003 WRX. Thanks for any insight.”

I answered, saying that this question may be better suited to a Toyota or just about any truck site, then I saw Unabomber’s new thread, seemed like a fit...

To be honest I find this thread quite discouraging for a few reasons.

1) I know this isn't an issue for many, but some of us don't have the time to come onto each car forum and browse, search and hunt for hours and hours to obtain some semi-basic information.

2) This forum is quite vast in the # of sections it has, and in my experience, has a more complicated structure than other forums.

3) Search function is semi limited. For instance, 2 and 3 letter words don't work, and often times if you search for a word, it will not find threads that have that word as part of a bigger word, even in the subject. Often times you have to be dead on with a subjects title to find a thread, which is nearly impossible.

I'm not dis'ing the forum in anyway, this is definitely a great place to be but I haven't seen other forums put up a list of 1,000 questions you're not allowed to ask, simply because some other people, 2 or 3 or 6 years ago may have asked them already and even if the threads are impossible to find and/or locked.

Oh c'mon! some of those Q's anyone here can answer it in a few sec's
EVEN if you're tired of seeing the same Q's being asked, if you have the time to type in "search!" try to be helpful instead, and there are really new ppl to the subies here, so I'd gladly in a few sec's tell a new owner what turbo he has if it's stock etc...

Anyone here also has a lot of resources on good OEM cheap parts or cars.

It's basically saying "Guys! try to cut back on the 'helping'!'"

Just saying

oh man! Talk about personal issues lol

This wouldn't be the thread for that (no relation to OP)
Probably a group therapy forum?

I agree with you, but on a positive note, all those kids wrecking Subies means more used parts for us.
