Thumbs up sighting:02 WRX with JDM STI engine

I just talked to a guy that drives a 02 WRX......but as we speak.....i noticed he has a STI 6 speed tranny........so we pop the hood and WaLa
a JDM STI engine.

nothing too special to share but it's cool to see a bug eye STI in vancouver

he's not on the board yet so I told him to come up to the forum hopefully i can see him here soon

Sick sick sick.
Should have bought a 2.5RS instead unless he found a WRX shell.

umm i dunno if that's the same guy but i know REV did a JDM STi swap onto a 02 bugeye too

thing is the guy bought a wrecked wrx with blown engine and he swapped it out w/ a JDM STi engine (but not sure if the tranny goes in as well)...

it's white before all the bodywork is done...

Ontario is lucky to have a shop and tuner that specializes in JDM engines and tranny... V7 and V8 swap is very common there

JDM STi engines can be had for pretty cheap with ECU, harness, engine, turbo, intercooler etc for about $6500. Throw in a Greddy E-manage and it'll save you wiring and you'll have a STi engine running at less than $8k. But that STi tranny is just...........sweetness. Subaru guarantees to be good up until 450lb/ft.

Word.
Vancouver Subaru market isn't as strong in performance in comparison to other places. When you have a handful of people who are willing to throw out $10-15k on their car at any given time, it supports a market to have shops to cater to this.

Less than $8K I might be interested in that. But what about reliability. I had my truck @450HP and spent a fortune on maintenance and fuel.

Reliability is great because its a STi engine in stock form. Main problem I see is the RS/WRX/TS tranny trying to keep up with all this power. You could just go a cheaper way and get a STi shortblock (EJ257) for $1400USD so you get forged parts etc. Your compression ratio will drop to 8.2:1 for the 2.5RS I believe...

Grand National? Oh gawd. Sick sick sick.
http://www.cannonball-r.com/Engine.htm

Look at the bottom. We can import the same one at slightly cheaper, but you get the idea. I'm not sure about fitment and such on any other car than a GD.

As for trannies ..not those kinds...but Gruppe-S has one which I would have picked up fi I still had my car.
http://www.gruppe-s.com/Subaru/subtrn.htm

Look under the fully built STi RA V6.

Swap is almost always more reliable than an aftermarket turbo setup.

Hey '****' did you ever get some pricing on that Bomex Wing.

That was a little off topic but it just came to mind. My partner at work has an 87 GranNat and I was getting ready to give him a go this summer but I am having some trouble getting my Cobra due to all the transport Canada crap So I was thinking SWAP if I could work it into my toy budget for the year. It might take sending the wifey to the spa a few times but I think I can get her to see that it 'needs' to be done
