Question USDM ECU VS UKDM ECU, Any differences?

Hi All,

I'm curious if there are any differences between USDM ECU and those in other countries' WRXs (ike UK or OZ spec???

Reason is I would like to try using AP on my car but I have UK spec and thus afraid that AP won't work.

As far as I know, reading thousonds of threads, I can't find the difference. But just want to hear from you guys your opinions.

It is of my note that US is the only country that have two throttle cables.

What other clues that should tell me if mine is different than yours??

Pls help feed back

Thanks
Nik

That other cable is for the cruise control.....and most of the new, MY '05 here, are 'throttle by wire' now.
You don't tell us the year of your car....REAL hard to help you there...

You wanna use AP on your car??? Call Cobb and ask them if it works or not.....if they can't/won't tell ya....skip the AP.

Sorry I forgot. I live in Thailand and my car is MY04. I run my car with 95 Octane.

My car is right-hand-drive that's why I think I might get UK/OZ spec ECU.

I've search through UK group website, ScoobyNet but they know nothing about AP. Those guys use different EMs like PPP, XEDE, TEC2 and TEC3

The only common EM is ECUTek reflash which is custom flash by tuner, and not off the shelf like AP.

I'll try contacting Cobb for an answer.

I get a little scared after I found that a lot of people have problem with AP.

You can get an OZ UTEC, and there is LOTS of help with that here.

the ecus are radicaly differnt
the usdm sti ecu is throttle be wire
the rest of the world's sti ecus are alot closer to the usdm WRX ecu

at current the AP won't work .. but i suspect that to change
cobb was just in japan .. so i would speculate that a jdm version of the AP is on the way

For the people with Euro/UK-spec STI engines

I have been in contact with Cobb and the Ap is coming also for Euro/UK-spec WRX and STIs along with the StreetTUNER...

The utec is compatible with Euro Spec STI or WRX. I've used UTEC in both cars. Dunno the AP and Cobb didn't help much by the time i had the same question.

Hi,

Very interested in the UTEC!

So you just buy a regular WRX UTEC or is there a special variant for Eurospec cars?
How was the Euro Spec STI running with the UTEC?
I have a Euro WRX STI -2003(only mod turboback exhasut) and I am looking for something to tune myself.
There is the Hydra but then I loose the OBD-port etc so the UTEC is an option but I have never seen any basemaps for the euro-spec STI to give me a good starting point...

Given that the thread-starter, Spec C Wannabe, inquired about the WRX (and not the STi), this is irrelevant.

Hi,
I used the same UTEC on both WRX and STI (both Euro spec)

Had no problems and used all the features without problem.

UTEC is a great piggyback but if you are planning something big, go with a standalone like AEM EMS.
